The secret is in the butter. You can see pepper lunch has this very mysterious, dark yellow and speckled butter, you should try hijacking that too

I agree. I once tried to get a piece of the butter before it completely melted on my plate and I'm confident to say that it does have a huge impact on the meal.

I found the Japanese recipe for the Honey Brown Sauce has miso paste that gives it umami

@@lmondeerioneri8604 sorry for the super delayed reply 😄 I use 2 parts honey, 1 part miso, 1 part soy sauce, 1 part sesame oil. I also add in some grated garlic. Just mix it or blend. No need to cook or add slurry if you are using honey.

As long as it's lighter and sweet compared to regular soy sauce then you can use it.

Thin beef slices for Shabu-shabu are best, they can be found in japanese or korean supermarkets or just the regular supermarket if you live in Asia. If not, any cut of meat that is more lean or firm would work, just wait till it's stiff from being in the fridge so that it's easier to slice it thinly yourself.

honestly, I dont really see the need for the second sauce. Tastes pretty good with just the first... ends up taking a lot of space for so many types of sauces.

Here’s the recipe :) 1st sauce: 1 tbsp oil 2 tbsp onions 1 tsp garlic 1/4 cup honey 2 tbsp kikkoman 1/8 tsp. salt 1/4 cup slurry 2nd sauce: 1/2 cup kikkoman and regular soy sauce 4 cloves garlic *Marinate 30 mins* 2 tsp sugar 1/2 cup slurry The meal itself: 1 cup rice 400g beef 2 tsp oil 2 tbsp butter 1/4 cup corn 2 tbsp spring onions 1/2 tsp pepper Drizzle with sauce and let cook :)

@KIT YAN LO no. Japanese soy sauce and Chinese soy sauce are made differently. It’s not sweeter. They just taste different

Slurry is a thickening agent. Usually a flour and water mix if I remember correctly.

Hi Rolando! It's a mix of cornstarch and water to thicken the sauce. For this recipe, we used 1 tsp cornstarch + 1/4c water!

What the hell is regular soy sauce? Isn't kikkoman a soy sauce brand? So you're mixing soy sauce and soy sauce?

Yes you are, because kikkoman is lighter in taste and it is "sweet" in a way compared to regular soy sauce.

@@vamosnippon Oof, try using "datu puti soy sauce" or "Kishibori Shoyu" you can probably find it at any asian grocery. Or just any pure/dark soy sauce, It's hard to explain but regular soy sauce has a different taste to kikkoman lol.
