Tuesday 14 May - on Sunday I switched around things in a composting area, and also emptied our perennial weed bin, and am pretty pleased with the black gold we've had out of it, so I show we what I did and what I got. I also notice germination in our carrot bed and also some germination in our basil;
Wednesday 15 May - Our weak butternut squash are no more... munched to oblivion! However, the Charlotte potatoes seem to be doing well. So, I get on with an hour or so of pulling grasses and weeds, and strimming... just tidying up helps the mind balance after some disappointment, and the joints get oiled too.

Georgie is very dapper... and getting even more comfortable around the plot. 👍 It seems it is quite a challenging year in terms of crops being eaten young. 😬

Hi Paul, Thank you for another great week on the plot episode. I always thoroughly enjoy them ☺️ Wow! You've worked so hard. The plot is looking fantastic.😃 I'm so sorry that the slugs and snails have been eating away at your butternut squash and onions. It's such a shame after all the hard work you've put in. I really do hope you have success with the veggies that have started to germinate. I was very interested to hear you talk about the compost bin. Thank you for explaining. How good of you to be so respectful of the little critters. I thought that was really lovely. 🤗 Fab to see Georgie making an appearance! I'm looking forward to next week's plot episode, Paul. Wishing you and Richard a really super week.🤗🌸

I think we need to balance how we grow with nature... some times swaying more to our own needs and harvests, though mainly trying to keep a decent balance overall. 👍😊👍

That's a really great way to look at it all and by looking after the crops you are not causing a huge amount of harm to nature. As you say, it's all about keeping a balance and this is how nature works itself. ☺️ Hope you have a good rest of the week on the plot, Paul 🤗

Hi Paul, I had to resow my squash too. A rodent got into the greenhouse and dug down to the seeds. They were about 2 ins high so I thought they'd be ok, but no! Then on my plot a mole heaved up all the parsnips and some broad beans, then my lupins I'd grown from seed were heaved up too. This morning, my metal bird peanut feeder has totally disappeared!! What with rats, slugs, snails, possibly a squirrel and moles I wonder what's coming next!!! However, I'm still smiling, but it's raining heavily today so no gardening at all. Happy days 🤣🤣

Hi Paul, I absolutely feel your pain in regard to the slugs and snails! For the first year they’ve eaten all of my tomatoes, parsley, thyme, coriander , squash and pumpkins! They’ve never eaten tomatoes before!! Bloody buggers the lot of them and I’ve tried copper, eggshells, straw, sawdust, coffee grounds etc I think they are immune to all deterrents tbh

I have tried that yes but I end up with everyone’s slugs on the Lottie! And also the sludgy mixture that has to be discarded makes me feel quite ill! Am going to try oats around the plants so I’ll let you know how that goes 🤞

Yes, laugh. It's better than the alternative. Like the old saying: Laugh and the world laughs with you; cry and you cry alone. I've been laughing more, especially since I don't have the JAK2 mutation. That means, it's not blood cancer. So, twice now, doctors have told me I have polycythemia vera, then it turns out I don't. It's not too much iron either. At least they've figured out what it isn't. Now I've been pawned off to more specialist. If they tell me it's cancer, I'll say, "Prove it!" Why can't doctors just say, "I don't know," and wait until they do know before they tell you something that shatters your world? The first time, I was elated, the second, just pissed off. So screw the doctors. I'm going to live and have fun. I'm looking at second hand class B RVs. :) Jon in rural BC, Canada
