I had this in the description, but nobody reads that, so I'll just move it here. The AIM-54 Phoenix is not included on this list. I didn't include it because we are going to get more active radar homing missiles in the March patch, and I would like to rank it against other missiles of its own class when that happens. If I were to hypothetically rank them, I would put them in the B tier somewhere. The range is good and the explosive mass let's you indirectly splash enemies even if they are close to the ground. The AIM-54A is better than the AIM-54C. The AIM-54A has the same motor, but it weighs less and has more explosive mass. The AIM-54C has better inertial guidance (the guidance the missile is under if it loses lock), which is not a very usable strength. TLDR, AIM-54 not bad but not good, and it will be on the active radar homing ranking when we get more of them in the next couple months.

I completely disagree on better inertial guidance nit being a usable strength. Maybe it isn’t in RB, but in Sim it is amazing. You can break lock to notch missiles and still get guidance. If you stay high and force planes to look upwards at you that missile is hitting. My hit rate with phoenixes is at least 3/4 in Sim as opposed to 1/4 in RB.

Personally I'd move the 9C up a tier because at the BR that you use it people are not expecting a radar missile and many planes either don't have or don't take chaff or the player doesn't think to use it.

Little asterisk about the S530F. The missile recently got some chaff rejection modeled which appears to function similar to Aim-9M's tracking suspension. Effect is semi-dependent on radar mode, with MTI/Doppler yielding better results than Pulse. If a target is spamming chaff, the missile is still trashed. But if the target is intermittently popping maybe 1-2 a second, the missile more often then not will continue to track. It's not as good as a CW seeker, but it's not as vulnerable to chaff as R-3R and Aim-9C

Yeah the 530F is a super gimped missile. It should have chaff rejection and maintain its own independent lock much better than it currently does. List is very accurate overall though. Much less nuance in this category compared to IR missiles.

Guess what. The S530F has had a level of chaff rejection for a couple months now. Did some testing, and it's effectiveness is semi-dependent on your radar lock mode. MTI/Doppler yields better results than Pulse. It appears to function off of a similar principle to Aim-9M's tracking suspension. If someone just pops one or two chaffs, or spaces their chaffs out more, the missile will keep tracking. But against a spammer, it's joever

I say the Skyflash SuperTEMP is more a sidegrade than a straight upgrade to the AIM 7F or 7M. It is certainly better at the usual range that most people fire Fox 1 missiles (5-15km) because its rocket burns quicker with more power. But at longer ranges, like (15-25), the F/M sparrow will have the edge because of its long burn motor.

SuperTEMP are perfect for jousting. Even on closer range, somehow it accelerate faster than Super 530D before it reaches the sustainer phase.

Firing a radar missile beyond 15km is almost always useless or stupid however so I'd say it's an upgrade

And at 1.5-5km it loses to the F/M in turn rate because of the 0.8 second initial guidance time it has compared to the 0-1.1 second ramp up on the F/M

Man. I actually enjoyed using the AIM-7C against strike drones before they had their BR increased. It was like the only way to fucking kill the things since they're so cold that IR missiles borderline can't see them, and they're also made of plasteel and guns don't do any damage to them.

Something I should about the R-27s, they accelerate harder but the have less range than R-24s, they track slightly better and are more resistant to countermeasures (very obvious with the R-27S and R-24S, you trade range for IRCCM basically). Both R-27R and ER have datalink so as of rn, unlike the rest of SARAH missiles they can fly without a lock for a rly long time and usually they dont have problems reaquirering (thats gonna change after the snail adds the AIM-120, especially later versions of the 120C. 120D will be a mix between the aim54 and r27er with none of the downsides)

The R-3R is an absolute beast on something like the Mig21s at 9.7 RB .....9.0 in AB why because most players seemingly don't take chaff hell if you launch at 2km or lower it's a near certain kill or cripple something in a head-on.

I have the opposite experience with 530D. It seems to have a mind of its own. A lot of times it just fails to track properly or maneuver to hit a target. It gets confused by both friendly and enemy radar emissions. Sometimes when you launch it will just go straight until out of fuel. Sometimes it just dives to the ground and sometimes pulls for the moon. This sort of behaviour is even more pronounced closer to the ground for obvious reasons, but in each case I described I've always had full solid lock with 2 red circles and often over 12000ft in the air (I don't usually go at ground level) and 10-20km range. It's been really frustrating for me. At this point I'd rather have the 530F, it's been relatively consistent for me in the F1C. Heck I'd even be OK with -7E.

Casual or competitive 4v4, air spawn, fighters only, 5 rounds. A round is won by destroying EVERY enemy aircraft. No respawns. First team to 3 victories wins. A missile limit mode is available to BR12+ aircraft, limiting missiles to 50% of total payload. E.g. F15 can carry only 2 AIM7s and only 2 AIM9s. This could change for balancing purposes, just an idea. Each game will give you rank. There is also a casual mode, with random matchmaker.

i dont know why the AIM-7E on the F4EJ (11.0) always seem to go for teammates instead of enemies, even though your enemy is actually in the sky with front aspect while your teammate sits rear aspect on deck at the edge of your radar "view field"...

Skyflash SuperTemp should have been A tier. Its kind of a side-grade to the Aim-7F and putting it at A tier would highlight the ridiculous gulf between the R-27ER and everything else.

The extra accel while maintaining the same general maneuverability makes it a great jousting missile. If there was like an A+ tier I'd put it there but I didn't want to make tiers within tiers.

With regards to inverse monopulse, it’s also a significant historical feature of the AIM-7M, R-23R, and every Soviet missile following the R-23R IRL it gives the missile proper low altitude capability, but in war thunder all missiles work as if they had it so it doesn’t matter. I’d like if war thunder modeled it properly, but I get why they didn’t. Russian bias narratives are bad enough without them giving russia, britain, and east germany got shoot-down capable Fox 1s before the US gets them

530F actually has chaff rejection so it ignores chaff most of the time if you maintain lock and that also means that enemies don't get a missile launch warning

I was using the r27er I had it locked on one aircraft it pulled 30g the wrong way and tracked a different aircraft by itself I had aircraft one still locked as aircraft 2 died

BR9+ 16v 16 each team gets 3 runways. 2 for fighters and 1 for strike planes . The fighter must destroy the enemy fighters before moving toward the middle of the map to destroy the strike planes. Bombers spawn at 7 minutes into the game and will be shot down by SAM sites unless the SAMs are destroyed by strike planes. You may respawn ONCE before 10 minutes into the game and strike planes should be interceptors to hunt bombers if they didn’t destroy all SAM sights. The game is won by getting enemy tickets to zero or killing all player aircraft.

Full version :BR9+ realistic:16v16 only the large maps. 100 tickets per team .3 runways per team. Two runways are fighter spawns and fighters are distributed evenly on opposite sides of the map. The middle runway is for strike aircraft, 4 per team. They must carry a strike load preset; planes such as jas37 may carry fighter load outs and spawn as fighters. The strike planes role is to destroy several marked SAM sites across the map. 7 minutes into the game,AI strategic bombers (5)will spawn. If SAM sights remain, the AI will be destroyed. If they destroy the enemy base they lose 50 tickets. Each enemy fighter or strike plane lost loses the enemy 2 tickets. Each bomber destroyed loses 4 tickets. For victory enemy must reach 0 tickets(1 base destroyed, 5 bombers killed, 15 enemy planes destroyed or some other combination. Or, all player aircraft must be destroyed. Players have 1 respawn until the 10th minutes into the game at which point respawn is disabled. Strike fighters should respawn as interceptors is SAM sights still remain in order to destroy enemy bombers. Fighters may only enter the strike plane sectors once 3 enemy fighters are destroyed in their sector to stop strike planes being instantly killed.

@@michagysin3082in most case, SARH Missile are more likely to be used as jousting instead of BVR. Unless your enemy are stupid enough to not pay attention to the RWR, or you want to do Look-Down Attack to stupid bomber that thinks ground hugging works again Look-Down Attack.
