What I like most about Rachel's Lesson is that she keeps her professionalism at the same time get close to most people using social media. One evidence is that she always uses the IPA next the words. For me, IPA is a very real shortcut to learn correct pronunciation.

Rachel, thank you for these useful and deep videos, they're just brilliant and detailed I don't know anyone who does the same amount of work you do. I like learning English and recently I got a job and I feel that I don't have enough time to learn the language properly the way I did it before. The work takes about 12 hours a day (thank God I've got a 2/2 work schedule) and I need a piece of advice on how to practice English at work when I do things and what? Speak to yourself or make sentences or learn vocabulary by naming the objects I see (hahaah, what am I writing down here?)
@rachelsenglish
@rachelsenglish 6 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you! I think you can do any of the practice techniques you describe. Making up sentences about what is around you, practicing conversations, naming objects - all of that is great! The one thing you should add is keeping a notebook of vocabulary that you use - including common phrases and conversations, and look up the pronunciation of the words - practice the linking in phrases and the rhythmic contrast in phrases and in multiple syllable words. That way - you can turn your work into an awesome tool for your pronunciation practice! Keep up the great work!

You don't even know how strongly I appreciate the reply you gave me here :) Also I wanted to thank you for the video on "words for fruits" - helped me to remember some of the fruit such as plum and tangerine and so on (they're quite rare to hear around, arent' they?). And again, thank you for taking the trouble to give such a detailed tip on how to make further progress :)

Yes, I agree for the word "work" to do not drop the r sound because it sounds like British or Australian English. In American English, "r sound" always sounds not only the word "work", but also "first", "worst", "either", "neither", etc. That's my explanation...........

I really love your channel, your lessons help me a lot in my english classes! Also, I'd like to know if you can make a video on the words that are pronounced differently depending on the part of the speech, just like you explained for the words "use", "address", "house"... I often get confused whenever I face them... One example would be the word "please" as an adverb and as a verb. Thank you, greetings from Brazil.

Hello! "No" and "know" are pronounced the same way - an N consonant followed by the OH as in GO diphthong. "New" and "knew" are also pronounced the same way - an N consonant followed by the OO as in DO vowel sound.

I JUST found your channel and I appreciate the content. Helped me learn correct pronunciation of mischievous. One of the best mispronounced words was said by Shia LeBeouf ( Not sure on spelling). On the red carpet he was asked about Michael Douglas and said he was " the Eh p tome" long O.... I'm trying to spell it phonetically. It was crazy because having to learn lots of dialogue for movies I thought he'd know how to say epitome. I laughed assuming he was reading a cue card and didn't know how to say the word. NOW, I'm wondering if always pronounced it wrong?? Hmm🤔🤔

Hello! Here you go: 'Where' in IPA: [wεəɹ] - you'll pronounce an EH as in BED vowel before moving into the R sound. 'Were' in IPA: [wɜɹ] - you'll pronounce only the R vowel after the W consonant sound.
