Thank you for talking, hearing the teacher speak is vital to the learning process. Unfortunately most people don’t want to learn anything. Learning new things can be hard, it takes brain power, and most of all reveals how truly ignorant we are-- a huge problem for the false ego. So people remain in their comfort zone and refuse to learn anything

I rather like your talking, shows what your thinking. And watching you fix mistakes is a HUGE help.... When it all goes easy for the pro, it leaves us less proficient trying to figure out how to fix with no guidance. BIG THANKS for the vids Gary.

I was lucky enough to inherit a lot of scroll formers from a retired, now deceased, smith not far from you. Having a boy who is a bit of an academic whiz, I now know that the formers are astonishingly mathematically accurate in their spiralling. They must have taken some doing...

Glad to see your hand is doing better. I demo'ed your way of scroll layout to our blacksmith club. They loved it. Then asked how to reproduce THAT scroll. One guy brought up draw it on thick wood and put in good screws along the lines. Get the metal really hot and do it that way. I haven't tried yet. Might work Most of us like the talking. Only cause you sound funny. Ba haha. Thank you much for the teaching

This is awesome! I'm looking for ideas I'm not exactly new to ornamental iron but I'm going to buy my first welder and I'll be going to the scrap yard to see what I can find to get started. BTW those are some massive forearms. I'm a little jealous 😂

Gary I searched your videos but did not see it so if you've not, could you please do a video on making the double ended bending fork you are using in this video. I realize I can just fab something, but It looks like yours is one piece forged, which I would prefer to do. I'd very much like to see you make this tool. Respectfully requested.

Nice video Gary. Have you ever taken a nice scroll from say a scrap gate and used it as a former by slightly offsetting it? Ive often wondered if that would be a useful way of creating a nice accurate former? Thanks for the video again

How well would a "scroll jig" work? Like would it work to make the smaller 1st few swirls or does it not make it any easier/faster. I know scroll work is kinda one of those "better when hand made" thing. Just wondering.

i agree! talk on, Gary. the days of silent movies are long over.. and in any event, i am 'ard of 'earin, so i turn it up to eleven. but hey! have you ever thought about having someone do interpretive dance to compliment the visuals? it could work. it'd sort out that pesky information you generously impart with trademark, matter-of-fact dryness and put it elsewhere.. where it cannot be heard. i like your video style mate, keep em coming

Hi. Im subbed but do not remember what video of yours i watched 1st. So mostly this is the only video to go by. The talking is the best part. The level of critic you are doing to your work is awesome. If you made all your videos like this then you sir, will gain subs. One last thing about you talking.... Your voice doesnt match your arms. Not sure what i mean, but take it as is. o7 Cheers !

Disclaimer: im a beginner blacksmith. But, at 7:17 If you would put the scroll at an angle to the anvil and hammer at a angle i think it would be easier to form the scroll.
