Sorry, the fit and finish doesn't look great. You can see all the strips/wires looking up the (poorly built/finished) staircase.

Agreed. Looks terrible. If your treads don't have a lip or you're not willing or able to router them in, you shouldn't do this. What's the sense of a "cool" factor when it looks like sh*t?
