I have real difficulty not stamping the kick the whole way through fills...like you might keep time with the hats pedal. Some employee came over and said "you don't have to stomp so hard" in a music shop one time, and now I'm self concious about how hard I stomp the kick pedal 😕

Only real musicians understand how amazing this is. Music is Communication, it doesn't matter if the words you are using are complex or simple, what matters is HOW you say it. This guy is straight up poetic on the drums, but I'm not going to lie, I used to think this was just simple shit, but after studying music more thoroughly -- jazz, funk, dynamics, and technique it became clear to me why this guy is such a renowned player.

Good God!!! He is so smooth and tight on the drums even someone who's never held a stick in their hand, and can barely play a radio, think they can sit down behind a kit and play too. He's not playing 220 bpm, or doing anything so freaking intricate it would be folly to try and figure out most or all those licks. But, playing with the same precision yet not over playing ever single lick at the same time, and still groove as Steve Jordan does is rare indeed.

@XxStrongDrums1996xX12 жыл бұрын
Exactly. One of the things that I don't think that I noted is that drummers like Steve have MASTERED pocket playing. Take any young cat (like myself), and we may be able to groove, but we are going to make mistakes. A drummer of Steve's experience can make a groove go for HOURS and NEVER make a mistake. That's what we all want to aspire to. That's what a real drummer does.

The measure of a musician/artist/drummer such as Mr. Jordan... how many different artists with differing styles of music have not only asked Mr. Jordan to not only play for them, but been willing to pay to have him play. And repeat customers? That tells me he's a player that's there to serve the music, serve the artist and make music that feels good and stirs emotion! Excellent!
