It's actually true. I'm a drummer and when you're absorbed in playing you get lost in a weird state of mind which is hard to describe. I used to go drive cars really fast on a circuit and it's a similar feeling, or when you're doing mountain biking down a very fast and difficult path. You become so focused on the present moment that everything else sort of vanishes and you enter a special zone. It's like a meditative state of mind. I think this why so many people become obsessed about becoming good at this sort of thing, this is probably the only feeling that can become as addictive as sex. Sex also does a similar effect if done correctly (as in allowing yourself to be lost in the passion of the experience). To me all of the disciplines that can take a human being to this state of mind should be considered artforms.

The older gentleman with the long beard had such profound and accurate observations about what it takes to play drums at the level that Danny Carey does. I am sure that Danny himself would agree with much that he had to say. He has studied rhythm so long and at such breadth including rhythms in regions not so far from where this video was recorded to be the master that he is. The roots of his talent spreads across the whole world. Thank you for showing these kind men what we love and allowing them to show us their thoughtful appreciation for it.

Came to say the same. I understand Bonham being at #1 because of how influential he was on drummers that came behind him, but Danny not being at least in the Top 5 is inexcusable. Wow, what a choice for their first "drum cam" reaction - this is the aduIt sized serving! I play the drums, and I can confirm that Danny Carey is definitely an Ustad to us. In English, I would call him a Master without a doubt. And tell Muharam that he's got rhythm, so he should absolutely take up a percussion instrument if his heart wants to. I saw an article the other day about an 89 year old woman in the UK who took up the drums well into her 80s and plays with a group in pubs - he's got a few decades of a head start on her! ✌️😎

Have you ever thought of introducing everyone to marching band performances? Specifically the kind seen at highschools and colleges/universities? It great music, but also fascinating choreography. And seeing a musical performance containing that many people moving and playing and working in unison would probably be really interesting! It's also pretty easy to find their performances online, and you don't have to worry about them getting blocked.

I think they would really enjoy both the music and the meaning of the lyrics in "The Logical Song" by Supertramp. It's a song I believe everyone on earth could relate to in some way. There's a breathtaking saxophone solo too and it's amazing. The lyrics do have some very long and advanced words, but they rhyme beautifully in a way that is very enjoyable to hear even if you don't understand what they all mean. It's one of my favorite songs and I really believe it will be one of yours too. I love watching your videos and have great respect for you all. May God bless all of you with a long and happy life ♥

Oh, I think they would like Supertramp an awful lot. Especially that song. My favorite sing about that song is something that would mean anything to them at all: the "loss of possession" sounder from the Mattel Electronic Football handheld game of my childhood right at the top of the fade out at the end.

As a guitarist, I am often at a loss as to how some if this song is counted. I can count it as a straight 4/4 yet it feels so robotic. I think there is some crazy goin on where it can almost be a 9/8(3 3 threes). Or 5/4 combos. I suppose that is the brilliance of Tool? Polyrhythms?

@@zappasmoustache23 You probably know more than I do. My drum kit rn is literally a plastic coffee can lol. Don't sell yourself short bruv. Just make sure that what you know is correct or close to most correct. Tbh: I think what I said is probably not correct enough. That song(Pneuma) is difficult to count, and it is probably(always or mostly) a straight 4. Polyrhythm is a learned skill. Lateralus is far more odd. Mostly because of the exact 5/4 and the fibonacci sequence syllables on the vocal pattern with the bass and guitar dancing around that pocket. (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, etc) tldr: just play some drums bruv. Maybe fux with some basic maths? Idk. I have legit not played an actual drum kit in almost 2 decades lol. (I am probably 100x better now than I was then tho...)

@@py_a_thon the intro before he start playing is 6/8+5/8+5/8 (the last repetition is 6/8+5/8+7/8) When Danny starts playing it's just 6/8+5/8+5/8 (8/4 technically) with the last repetition being 6/8+5/8 followed by 7/4 rest (the actual song has way more time signature changes, i'm just talking about the intro) He's actually varying tempo in that part though ;-)
