Periphery (who are signed to Roadrunner UK, FYI) vocalist Spencer Sotelo gathered a few friends - guitarist Taylor Larson, bassist Will Donnelly, and Periphery members Misha Mansoor (normally a guitarist) and Matt Hellporn on drums - and recorded a frankly pretty crushing version of Slipknot's classic "The Heretic Anthem," from their 2001 album Iowa. I'm just now finding out about this band, and I love how the vocalist can go from some really poppy sounding cleans to some insanely aggressive screams. The overall style of this band varies and it's goddamn impressive as fuck. Props

I think it was mainly because of his vocals on P1. Compare his singing there to P2 or really anything they put out after P1. I don't think he was bad, but he was seen as sort of whiny. He went from being like a 6 to a 10 after that though, and now he's one of the best, if not THE best.

I come back to this cover a lot. Quite literally the only Slipknot cover I've heard that really captures the chaos and energy of the original. My god I bet Slipknot are so fucking proud of Periphery for this.

to be more specific, the fire and brimstone "you're all going to hell" Christians, there are different levels of how deep you get into a religion. not just "Christian", that is a broad label to slap on a group of vastly different people, i know many Christians and all do not believe in the same ideals, i apologize for being so broad but you cannot deny that many hardcore Christians would not find this music appealing

Their cover of Eyeless was terrible and is the only song on Count Your Blessings I can't stand, even though I'm also a massive SlipKnoT fan. Just my opinion though, SlipKnoT aren't easy to cover and cover well.

Not as bad as everyone thinks? They're amazing, arguably one of the greatest metal bands there is. They even managed to get it on to mainstream, something that no other bands like them had managed to do at the time. They actually got mainstream fans to like their music. That's how influential they were.

Keep in mind that Corey has been doing this shit for a long time with lots of Live performances and little resting/ recovery days for his voice. So that he'll never sound the same as in the start makes perfect sense to me. A lot of people were even surprised he is still able to do it because they thought he would fuck up his vocal chords real quick with the vocals he was doing (referring to the Self-Titled Album)

Yep, you're right on. I remember I used to be a huge Slipknot fan and Corey said once that 555 was supposed to be the record labels who wanted them to censor their lyrics (I think) and 666 represents the band, of course. Also this cover is practically flawless! Sponce really sounds a lot like Corey Taylor.

I always thought about that lyric. I think it is symbolic towards angelic-like things( I would google that). and the 666 is like saying I'm above putting on a false facade of goodness. To know you are inherently evil by nature(human nature, and embrace it). Basically if you are being accused of being a heretic then you are rejecting the prominent religion in your culture.

I bought Iowa as soon as it was released, and I was 20 at the time. You don't have to be 12 years old to like slipknot... And periphery is a phenomenal band... I saw them within protest... it was super swick.. :)

Excellentissime ! Un vrai cover digne de Periphery ! Je n'irai pas à dire que ça rend encore mieux que sur l'original (Je suis un vieux fan de Slipknot), mais je dirai que Periphery remet la chanson au goût du jour, lui redonne une petite jeunesse ! Encore un orgasme auditif, merci !

Wasn't feeling their One cover.. But this is pretty killer. This guy should stick to experimental and heavy vocals because he kills on this. They didn't really try to make it their own, but that isn't always a bad thing. Very good.
