Hi I live in England and used to work on those engines a bit a few years back and all I can say is if the injectors aren't bad then it could be the rotary discs in the pump that are worn great work by the way keep it up

$25.00 for injectors... ah the good old days, now several hundred for damn common rail.

I have that motor in my JCB backhoe . Best engine I ever had turbo model.They are so good that CAT owns them now and puts them in 416 backhoes. Low rev high torque and quiet. Need a 1200amp battery in winter to crank otherwise awesome motor. Keep good fuel and service motor oil filters a lot and put a pint of oil in diesel fuel to lube pump. Motor lasts 10,000 hrs easy. My machine was from NYC never serviced and blew a piston from to much starting fluid. Machine is a JCB 214 4wd and pushes like a dozer entire pile off tandem dump in one push. Quieter and stronger than my 580 case with Cummins. שלום

I think you're going in the right direction with Injector's, since the return line is ok and it's returning fuel to the tank than that is ok (or should be). I love a good "Thriller". he-he.

Diesel sit and injectors stick . Lucas fuel treatment actually works great otlr ATF fill the fuel filters with straight Lucas or atf and run it add a lot to the fuel but . Perkins injectors 50 to $100 each. Some Cummins are crazy money like $2-3 thousand each. Had a cat that cost crazy money and a 3406 b they costed $50 each . That start looked like sticky injectors.if they are sticking the exhaust ports will be low and near the same temp. On the bad injectors cylinders. Now on eBay you can by a injector clean and tester for a couple hundred dollars

yeah pretty good guess that those are old injectors not new. Always makes sense to check the injectors first then check and make sure the fuel reg isnt dumping too much fuel. Thats assuming it has a fuel regulator

Hmm, perhaps the fuel distributor has timing problems ?

I don't like using ether because it dries out the cylinders, but WD 40 works good on a diesel....before there was WD40, my dad used Ronson lighter fluid.

Hey does that perkins take a computer ? I have a 6.2 and I should have dropped it in a honda like you did. It doesnt have a turbo and you said you have a set up off a 6.5 which I would love to buy from you ! You had actually said that on the started that there was one with a gear reduction does that help it turn over faster and does it stop you from the dredded 2 battery ? IF you could give me a way to get in touch with you there are several questions I could use your help with. I have a water pump out and is there any thing else I should change at the same time ? I plan of course to change the thermostat and belts look ike they could use it as well but, I am so tired of dirty oil and no power ! Please I need HELP !!!!!

No computer. This has the traditional CAV rotary injection pump designed in the 1930s and still being made by Delphi.

Jonathan, If it is getting all that fuel, and it is not revving up, then it is getting fuel at the wrong time. Check the injection pump timing. It acts like the injectors are firing way late, after TDC. Could the timing be retarded in some way to make it start easier, and just not coming out of start mode? Maybe there is another solenoid on the injector pump that needs to be hooked to the starter solenoid, something like that? Not up on Perkins stuff, but I think the injectors are just fine. It is a timing issue.
@jonathanw49428 жыл бұрын
It's erratic, so I'm not sure. If it was don't the same thing every time It may be. I did hook 12 volt to the post on the injector pump and nothing changed, but I am not ruling out timing, but I will check the injectors because it's dumping a heck of a lot of fuel.

how about the engine you had out back any chance the injectors on it are any good or the same kind or size? ps I laugh Because I see in this video, someone that is doing things just like my dad and I would do them! A old red gas can with diesel fuel in it, close to a starter that we are going to jump! And in doing so create a hell of a lot of Sparks... I mean I get at least it's not gas in that gas can... lol kind of like torching gas tank straps on an old car yeah I've never done that before... safety first! lol

All it takes is one injector that is leaking fuel into a cylinder. easy to check! just look for a wet cylinder. I doubt the timing is off. Quit abusing your tools and the starter!!!!

@Akbaker968 жыл бұрын
Why don't you believe in startin fluid?
@TheSwampdoggydog8 жыл бұрын
It makes the engine run dry till it burns it off and they can get 'addicted' to it then they only start with the starting fluid
@Akbaker968 жыл бұрын
Brett Swampy it didn't know that thanks for the info.
@kooldoozer8 жыл бұрын
Ignition timing on a Diesel is controlled by when the injector squirts. If you use starting fluid, there is no ignition timing, other than when the compressed starting fluid happens to light off. If that happens before the piston reaches the top, bad things happen.
@Akbaker968 жыл бұрын
kooldoozer I really don't know anything about diesels, but that does make sense.
@jonathanw49428 жыл бұрын
Will hurt rings, pistons and cylinder walls. Diesels get addicted because the compression is reduced at cranking speeds from wear. Then it requires starting fluid every time. If it spins fast and won't start, there is a problem and starting fluid won't solve it, just helps start a warn out engine.
