Two contractors work on renovating a home's staircase, which was previously in bad shape. They discuss and show the demolition process for removing the old stairs. Footage documents the rebuilding process as they discuss and install new studs, plates, and stringers to frame out the new staircase. Additional details include hanging drywall, adding a handrail and bracket system, measuring tread depths, finishing trim work, and advice on techniques such as tapering strips to create smooth transitions between wall materials. The tutorial video provides information on best practices for stair building and remodeling.

Man, that's a lot of money for a weather rock. I got mine out of they yard. Cost me like .10 cents in string. Hasn't failed me yet. 😂 Jamie I did work for a contractor who always sheeted his kitchens under the drywall so he never guessed at stud locations. I thought it was a little to much bet he really believed in it. All 3/4 ply. He also always had us rip 1/2 ply by 2 1/2 inches and nailed it on all the walls. Then drywalled from there up. Always had solid material to nail base board to.

This was one of the best vids. IMO is much more involved to do a good job on something like this than to build a home from scratch. In my previous house in NJ had severe termite damage and I had to rebuild the entire front wall of the house and brought it back to new construction level with my father. Fun times.

On the stair you could build a return for more support... say a 10 or 12 inch stem wall, and in the resulting alcove have shelves for books, or knicks and knacks. Or in this case, since you have a wall two feet away, build a set of two-foot structural shelves fastened to the adjacent wall. On the free-standing end of a stem wall I've cut a hole in the floor, and extended the end post 4x4 down into the 3 foot crawl-space where I dug a shallow pit, lying on my side, poured a sack of ready-mix, topped that with a pier, and fastened the post to it.

When I was remodeling bedrooms, I tore the closets out and rebuilt them different. The insides got 1/2" sandeply instead of drywall. I wanted to be able to hang anything anywhere later. The surface was really smooth. I used joint compound at seams and such as if it was drywall. I was very happy with it.

We worked on a mansion where we had 2x6 walls with 3/4 ply on both sides, house wrap on the outside, with strapping over wrap, at studs, with another 3/4 ply on top of the strapping to create air vent! Then covered outside with Revere wear copper siding, inside with cherry paneling ( also 3/4 inch )!! That’s 4 layers on all walls! It was only a 3 million dollar 1930’s Tudor Mansion that we threw 12 million more dollars at over 2 years!😮

Just a small FYI regarding "I have a dream that one day we'll put sheathing on the entire inside of a house". That's actually how we usually build things here (Scandinavia, Sweden to be exact). Usually it's something like OSB on all the walls and then dry wall on top of that. At least the outer walls, but usually the other interior walls as well.

There's not a lot of material at the bottom. I had to trim one an inch I think and there was just a sliver left. So I took the piece I cut off pull the front and back side off leaving just the wood. A touch of sanding followed by removing dust adding glue sliding the solid piece in clamped it and put a couple of 18 gauge brads on each side. It's now the right height for the carpet and has a decent amount of wood at the bottom.

I recently bought a commercial dehumidifier from Vevor based on this channel and holy crap, I cannot express how terrible it’s been. It was broken out of the box, it had leaked all of the refrigerant and would run but didn’t dehumidify. This was a month ago and I started a case with their chat support (very difficult to find a number to call) I’ve been going back and forth with them for a month because every reply takes days. I received a message from them today offering me $36.00 to keep the item rather than replace it. WTF!? Why would I want a broken dehumidifier that I paid $400 for if you give me 36 bucks back? It’s been the worst customer support I’ve ever dealt with. Love the channel and I am not blaming the Perkins Bros, this is just a warning. I personally will never buy anything from them again.

You guys are fantastic builders, but you'd benefit from learning how to float a wall with a mud knife. I love watching your videos and I've learned many things from you. Nonetheless, mud finishing is not that scary and actually quite rewarding when you pull it off. Why do nearly all contractors and sub-contractors shy away from drywall finishing? I guess I shouldn't complain, that has given me an edge (ha ha!) in the business many times. At any rate I think the work you do and your channel's content are great. Keep it up!

I installed several of those split frame doors at my old house. Wacky opening widths, wacky everything. You do need to shim them, which can be difficult for wacky openings. But for the cost and ease they are great. Built a custom frame for one door, while it came out looking nicer, for me doing it DIY I don’t know if it would have been worth it if I didn’t have a specific need for how that door frame was set up. That being said, if I were getting a custom home build, I would prefer them being built by hand (looks better, feels better, will probably last longer, way more options about finish, etc), but would also be ok with that being the place to cut a cost if need be.
