How to install a Permagreen Agitator in a Brand New off the floor Lesco 80 lb Stainless Steel push Spreader. Install process is basically the same for all older and other 3 hole spreaders also.
The advantages of installing and using a Permagreen Agitator over the stock paper clip Z shaped agiator that comes with the new Lesco push spreaders and all the older lesco models including Permagreen 3 hole hoppers, Lesco HPS and club Cadet 3 hole models using the same Z shaped agiator are....
The Permagreen Agitator will provide instant flow of materials once the gate is opened when starting to move forward, it will break up and moves chunks to the side so materials keep on flowing through the holes consistently, holes stay mostly free of dust build up even during Humid or Damp weather conditions, eliminates bouncing the spreader to get materials flowing, the variety turf care Materials you can now spread is increased and now can apply ice melt products during the winter season with ease.

Spoke with Lesco according to there specifications the Lesco 80lb tire pressure should be set at 15lb psi. Got the permagreen agitator in my spreader all set up works great. I seen they are now adding the agitator to all the new permagreen ride on models. Works great. Saves the trouble of dumping the fertilizer back out in the back cleaning the clog then starting again. Great innovation

15 psi probably about what I have my lesco tires at. Took me 25 years to figure out how to make something so I didn't get any more clogs in 3 hole hoppers. It's a good feeling that many are saving time ,$$ and materials because of my invention.

Tire pressure should be set at 15 psi according to SiteOne. Could you do a video on the calibration keys. The agitator works great for the Lesco I hear they are adding them to the permagreens too. I don't understand why they require the two extra washers? Because doing that moves the plate up to the point where its almost off the cam...

You can use just 1 washer but claws may be too deep into the holes and you have to bend the arms up a little.

Where do you install the cotter pin? Great video. It would have taken me hours to figure it out without this video. The directions that come with it are pretty bad.

Cotter pins are only for longer Permagreen Triumph Stainless steel cam shafts with a drilled hole. They do not do much except help the cam shaft stay up when installing the permagreen agitator or if the set screw ever came lose, would keep the cam up from ever contacting the impeller fins. The permagreen SS cam shafts do fit on all lesco spreaders as a replacement if wanting to install one. By using the longer cam shaft you can put a few washers on the bottom of the cam to shim it down so it rides lower on the top of the plastic cam on the impeller.

Just get the LESCO. I have 2 that are almost 20 years old and still work great.

Agitator wasn't designed for sand or top dressing. I did testing of every type of material you can think of and even spread sand and other materials in the mechanical Permagreen Spreader Sprayer machines. but without a vibrating hopper you get the cone effect. The agitator was designed to help the even flow all the time of the majority of fertilizers that even have control products attached to them. Hope that helps.

When you applied this permagreen break thru do you have to put the screen back in the spreader or leave it out since the permagreen breaks up the fertilizer. Thanks

The screen should still be used in the hopper to catch objects and large hard chunks that could be in the material or grass seed bags.

Have you ever used this with small-prill greens grade fertilizer? I just installed the agitator and it is binding badly. I've bent up the tines so they are barely inside the 3 holes. I confirmed the metal cam is not bent in, which would increase agitation. I have a 2020 Lesco 80 lb. spreader, which has the deep holes that are not rounded over because I don't have a router to cut it. Thank you

On my spreader i do feel a little resistance but worth it less cloging

Ryan611ful You can adjust each arm up a hair using the tool that came in thr kit so the claws are not so deep into the holes but still in them some. If they are too deep in the newer Lesco spreader with the Deep holes they can be a little resistance on the tires. Older lesco spreaders with shallow holes the claws can be down deep close to the plate. You can also bend out/open up the cam a hair that rides on top of the impeller to make the Breakthru Agitator not agitate so much. Small easy quick adjustments make a big diffrences.

Mr E, I have the same issue. feel resistance and I am feeling too hard to push the spreader, I have 10-30 degree grading on my lawn, I am 5ft 6” tall. Do you have picture of what you said to Ryan611ful? I am.new into lawn care so still learning.

Just picked one up. Thanks for the great video. One issue I have noticed when I fill the spreader up with fertilizer I push the spreader to the lawn I hear a load clicking sound. It sounds ok once I start spreading the fertilizer but when not spreading it almost sounds like the grears are clicking. I checked everything out on the new lesco 80lb spreader. Works good when not loaded up and works good when spreading fert. but if I push it before spreading any fert it makes a loud clicking noise. Just wanted to see If you had any suggestions.

If you adjust the each claw up a hair with the tool so they are not so deep onto the holes there will be less sound. You can also take two pliers and open the stainless cam( one in Vid I pushed down some) that rides on top of the plastic cam on the spinner so the agitator agitates a little less back and forth.

Depends on what you are applying, you might not have to spend the extra money, if you don't need it. Some products contain moister and cause a build up, powder.

So do you ever use the weight-relieving mesh grid? It's always been a PITA for me, never used them, never seemed to have a problem.

I thought that was for catching chunks of fertilizer and other debris.

@@Methodical2 Lesco dealer told me the grid is mainly to regulate/relieve the weight of 50 pounds of fert to ensure accurate & consistent metering. If ur having more than 1 or 2 bags with chunks out of 500 bags ur buying the wrong stuff.

What is the tire pressure suppose to be set at and also could you do a video on the lesco calibration keys thanks

I usually just fill the tires up until their pretty firm. I don't think there is a rec pressure for them. I've had some leak in the past over the many years, all I did was remove the valve stem, pumped some tire slime in and they never leaked again. Using the keys for the holes is easy, open lever, put in the key# that you want and move slide knob till plate hits key then tighten knob. Hole should be set to the key you want.
