You could argue that the 'thick' sound was a style choice, but in reality the clearer, more open sound is due to training and a better technique.

I repeat, there was a significant change right after the surgery and that is in fact due to the tonsils being removed, and her voice resonates differently

You guys really have some amazing conspiracy theories, but the fact is that she did undergo surgery and the difference is caused by the tonsils being removed. Her voice resonates differently. That's all. No change in her vocal chords. It it not due to puberty, cameras, different recordings, better technique etc.

That "thick" sound is the lack of air traveling up through the nasopharynx (behind the nose, above the soft palate) and is often considered a nasal sound when a little air passes through (sounds like hers did not allow any, or so little that you couldn't hear it). The resonance you get in the facial sinuses really makes a difference to the tone of a voice.

The only thing that I miss about her "old voice" is the huskiness that she had. The thickness. It was really unique and I loved that. Now she does this growl kinda thing and I don't like it at all!!! She's forcing her voice and it sounds awful. I get really worried when she does that because it can damage her voice and she's got such a lovely voice. I'd hate for her to mess it up. 😕😕😕😕
@dribaby98
@dribaby98 8 жыл бұрын
Growls are actually pretty common in songs and she doesn't do them too much, not really. Like if you see performances and tour videos recently, she kind of holds off on that because I think she realizes it's not very good either. Also, if you listen very closely in some songs, she still has a tad of that thickness left.

@rafael3817
@rafael3817 3 жыл бұрын
CocoaCheerios she doesn’t lower her larynx unhealthily. Opera singers have done it for centuries and they’re known to have a crazy amount of longevity. Perrie’s larynx is often a bit lower than where it naturally is but it merely increases the space and makes her voice sound more full and powerful.

grismorblomst Actually, doctors have proven that getting your tonsils and/or adenoids removed doesn't affect your voice. Other then the first week where you have to rest your voice to let everything heal, but since your tonsils don't affect your vocal cords there is no effect after they are removed.

@@Kamil1161 Actually, Perrie also lowered her larynx (a lot) after her surgery to make her new voice sound similar to her old voice but it was mostly in late 2014/early 2015 that she started doing it because that's when the darkness in her voice was starting to reduce. She stopped doing it nowadays because her voice is almost the same as it was back in 2011/2012 as a result of pregnancy and ageing.

She sounds amazing either way! I feel like the surgery had a little something to do with it, but also that she just got older, my voice used to be deep when I was younger and as I've gotten older it has gotten more high and pitchy than what it was before! She's amazing either way. I just think her voiced matured as she got older, although i do sometimes miss that low raspy voice!!
@sethbrolsma516
@sethbrolsma516 5 жыл бұрын
Her voice sounds less plummy - meaning husky, like when you have a cold - but it’s basically the same. You have to factor in audio quality, venue, age, and just the day of the performance. If you’re winded your voice is going to sound different than if it’s your first song. If she’s congested or has a nasal infection, her voice will sound a bit different. There are other factors than her tonsils being removed. In order to prove that, I’d need a straight on video of her singing before surgery and then one after she’s healed to say there’s a noticeable difference.

after she got her tonsils out, perrie started lowering her larynx in order to deepen her voice and sound like she did before. she's stopped it now, i think, which is healthier for her voice. her old voice was very nice, but she got sick a lot and it was hard for her to reach high notes. now, her vocal chords are free and it's easier for her to sing.

One advantage of her getting surgery: - Her tone sounds/sounded much brighter and way more open instead of it being guttural like it used to be. One disadvantage of her getting surgery: - Her technique (especially when belting) worsened for the six years that followed the year of her surgery (but this was only a temporary problem because starting from last year, she became consistent with C5 again... she's still not as good of a belter as she was before her surgery but she'll get there soon!)

I hear no difference. Having your tonsil surgery doesn't make a huge difference to your voice. Personally, I think a lot of it is just confidence and quality. She's grown more as an artist and sometimes performances sound different cause sometimes her voice is tired cause she's a busy woman.

Alex Mallinson she's also gotten older which makes a difference to her voice
@lilalove7804
@lilalove7804 7 жыл бұрын
Alex Mallinson you can't hear it because you are probably a fan with no music experience, but if you listen close enough you will see that her voice before she got her tonsils removed was thicker and she sang with the "back" of her throat, it was lower and "less flexible". After the operation her voice became thinner, "more flexible", she gained more control, she isn't singing with the "back of the throat" ad much and it sounds a bit more open (laringe wise) and crispier. With time if you listen close enough to their most recent performances you will notice that her old voice is coming back, which is totally normal for singers who get their tonsils/adenoids removed. The changes in her voice cannot in any way be caused by her improvements tecnique wise since the voice cannot change ( in these cases) at that level, which is a pretty big change for a singer and I can tell that she definitly could feel it just like I could when I got mine removed and continued with my music and singing classes. These operations arte a big deal for singers and a slight change in their voice can instantly demolish ALL the improvements you made during your singing career, causing you to become confortable with your voice again and work on your tecnique again since it changed. It takes a while to re adjust .
@alexmallinson5759

It wasn't just her tonsils, it was her conditioning herself to be able to control the pitch in her voice

Nice video!!! I didn't know she got her tonsils out and now I get why her voice changed that much. I used to thought it was the fact that she grew up but it was so different!!

You clearly know nothing about the voice (and therefore have no business posting a video like this). If you did, you'd know that her voice was deeper before because she was forcing the notes through her inflamed tonsils. After the surgery, not only was her voice back to normal, but she also started singing more in her mask which is healthier and less strained. She doesn't get "pitchy" or "nasal" or loses a deep resonance like you say; she gains clarity, ease and a brightness that most singers can never achieve. So next time, take some voice classes or anatomy classes before you make yourself look ignorant.

I haven't even commented on the reasoning behind the change, only that her tonsils got removed and her voice sounds different

Tonsils don't have a lasting effect on the voice,it might sound hoarse a bit after surgery for a couple of days but that's it.shes gotten older so her voice obviously changed,nothing to do with tonsils.
