This is one of my all-time favorite sketches from SCTV, and I noticed there really wasn't a full HQ version on KZfaq... so, here we are.
From S4 E10, "CCCP 1" Written by the great Eugene Levy.
Originally broadcast October 16th, 1981

I think even then, in regards to that sight gag. It was just symbolizing culture clash. You don't expect to see a punk guy at a Perry Como concert. Big reason for being both people are really far ends of either side of the spectrum. Metaphorically, Perry music is Euthanasia, Punk's is cocaine and steroids.....Hence, the heart of the joke.

The brilliance of the classic SCTV lineup cannot be understated: John Candy, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, Andrea Martin, Joe Flaherty, Martin Short, Catherine O'Hara, and Rick Moranis. They wrote and performed their own stuff, they had virtually $0 budget, and they made it work. SNL could never hold a candle to SCTV.

This was about the time that disco was at its zenith, and so many classic crooners and even rock bands were doing disco covers, disco beat tunes. Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Streisand, you name it. Alan Parsons, Styx. If Jim Morrison hadn't died young, The Doors would probably be trying to stay relevant by doing a disco single around the late 70s. I kid you not. It was bigger than hip-hop, bigger than rap in the sense that people who had no body of work in disco were doing it to try and get a hit.
