In this episode I make my first attempt in astrophotography under the height of the Perseids meteor shower of 2015. I used my Canon Rebel T3i which I am still not very familiar with. However, I was still able to snap up 3 decent looking photos of shooting stars. I still have a lot to learn in astrophotography like not shooting from an unstable deck and using a remote shutter. Anyway, if you liked this video, please hit that like button or hit that subscribe button and I'll see you in my next video. Clear skies and thanks for watching.

I found your channel today and it helped me to use an old telescope I had on my attic. Now I think I can help you: for Astro photography there are 3 things you must have: a fast lens, a remote shutter and and a tripod. You already have a tripod and you talked about the remote. The fast lens is for your camera to be able to capture more light with less exposure time, you can start with an aperture as low as 2.8 but something higher than 2 (1.8, 1.2, 0.95) is recomended. Also NEVER use any auto mode, your camera compensates the lack of light by making the ISO higher, which makes the photos a lot more noisy (as you can see from the pictures you took). You need to adjust the ISO at 400 or 200 and start with shutter speeds of 1 second and gradually make it slower (thats why the fast lens is important). Unfortunately kit lenses (the ones that come bundled with your camera) are terrible for night photography. Hope this helped and I really like your videos. Infortunately I live in a big city on a region where we have like 1 or 2 month of clear skies. So I dont have much chances to see the stars. But what I learned today will make me take every chance to use my telescope. :) PS. please don't abandon your channel!

Hi ExcelionYogi, I just read your comment now and I appreciate it very much. It is very helpful to me so thank you so much for your tips. I have invested more in this hobby lately and I'm hoping to learn how to take better pictures of the night sky. Like you, I am in an urban setting so light pollution is a problem for me as well.

Awesome video! Definitely use a remote. No jiggling the camera. Best of luck on your astrophotography journey! Lots of books and suggestions out there. I've done some afocal photography of the moon through my dob. Just hanging the camera over the eyepiece. Got some really cool shots. If there's a mount for your camera you can use over your eyepiece, you can get some wicked moon shots. And, given your camera has some long exposure settings, you might be able to get some shots of nebula, clusters, and possibly even galaxies!

+Steve Smythe I've always wanted to try that on my newtonian on an EQ. I need to buy an attachment to hold my camera in place. One of these days I'll get one of those. Clear skies!

another tip - if you don't have a shutter button, set the camera for delayed shutter release. mine allows me to do 2 seconds, and that will prevent any vibrations from your hand pressing the button
