Perth Assembly - A Scottish sword dance

An 8 person sword dance over 8 swords. Collected by Mary Isdale MacNab. Danced tomusic by piper Ian Geddes.
Originated when Perth was the capital of Scotland - a gathering is said to have taken place when chiefs of various clans assembled to swear allegiance to their king.
In the dance claymore swords are arranged in a circle on the ground, points inward, and the dance for 8 dancers performed over them.

When I was learning Highland dancing, our group was mainly male. We were older, and had to teach ourselves from the books, but we did OK.

Aye, and men who know to lay their swords down instead of battle, we Scots know when to protect our land and when to dance, that makes us resilient,

The sword dance is an ancient cultural tradition of the Scotland, demonstration of strength, skill, and agility. The bagpipe is an instrument dating back 5000 years, the Romans recorded its use in Scotland. For my part, I have nothing but respect for these gentlemen, who represent their warrior bloodline and traditions that are their cultural identity.

@@revjamesgraham1 Hello James, I was a little more than just a highland dancer myself. I was blessed to dance before the Queen at the age of 12 in a command performance. Ranked #3 in the world back then, but that was a lifetime ago, now just getting up each morning is a blessing.

@@johneBGood yes, my youtube friend, my mornings are getting harder, the hips and the feet ache now, but I would not change a thing. Lucky you to have danced for the Queen!!!!!!!!
