I've owned this watch for several years and wear it regularly. It's a simple watch, but there is something about luxury watches. I can't quite put a finger on it....but it's a solid feeling. Almost heavy, rugged. Dependable. I put it next to my Seikos, which I also like, but this watch just feels solid. I wish I could describe it better. Anyway, I love it

I would the fit and finish on more expensive pieces invariably tends to be superior... the transitions, the sharpness of print, the perfection of manufacture. It all adds up to what a person perceives when they hold it in hand.

Not one to gush about any particular watch, because it’s hard finding perfection. The Ranger is very close. Under the radar, perfect size, proposition and symmetry, a well regulated 2824 that Joe the watch guy can fix for reasonable. Every part of it is quality. Wonderful box crystal, a solid well made crown stem, and although the 2 leather band choices are nice, the metal bracelet is to die for.

A perfect example of simple yet classy, vintage eloquence. Really luv what Tudor is doing all around. Wish they would incorporate 24hr time somehow for a feel all field watches should have that feature, but I would gladly live with it😁 Thanks for sharing and keep them coming.

Nice review, can I just say that Tudor heavily modified eta 2824 to the point that in my opinion it should be called Tudor 2824 and not eta 2824. There is new balance cock, Triovis fine adjustment mechanism, incabloc shock absorber has been replaced with Kif so a lot of changes to the standard movement found in cheaper watches

Thanks for that - very insightful and good to know the details! I wish Tudor would say so up front, including what grade the base ETA is!

Hey Ivan, I've always liked the ranger, and if you don't have 5k for an explorer 1.......you're right though, a 2824 movement in a 2.5k watch is asking a bit much, but it's a tudor, I love the look and you probably won't get mugged for it:)

Derek I was at the AD yesterday to pick up my GMT Tudor. The Ranger was the only watch in their case that popped out at me. I like the larger 41mm case. It’s very easy to read. I’ll be looking to pick up a used one.

Very nice tool watch review. Certainly Tudor on producing this watch based on their heritage / vintage design qualities is expected no less than of Rolex. The watch's lense are raised domed since the bezel is shorter / lower in height than the thick lense. Interesting clasp mechanism design. The watch's box packaging almost outshine the watch itself by the looks of it.

It is a nice one, the one I’d choose if I could afford this watch. The steel bracelet with its open straight ends I think cheapens the watch, while this tobacco leather band enhances it and enriches it, makes it look its best. So does the green camo strap.

I love the Ranger but I just wish it was a 38mm or less. The dial seems a bit spread out to me but that’s just my opinion. I own three modern Tudors now and would gladly add this if it was smaller with the new slim in house movement.

I love field watch for day to day use. They are boring in a way but I wear them for myself. On this particular watch I just really don't like the hands. I rarely like the hands on a tudor but on a field watch I would had expected something nicer. The rest is nice and well made but the price is a little step compare to nicer alternatives.

Love this watch. Love the low key plain and simple classic design. Reminds me of the early Rolex explorer before they went to applied Arabic numerals but with better water resistance and Sapphire glass instead of the old plastic which always got scratched so easily. I have been toying with buying one but when I went to try one on, I couldn't get my hand the the strap (I do have a 8 1/2" wrist). They did say that they could get me a bigger strap though. So do I go for one of these or a new Oris Pointer date with all the same attributes? Decisions, decisions. Keep up the great video. Perhaps you could get an Oris to do a comparison?
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that thoughtful comment! That Pointer Date is pretty awesome looking, a 4 hander with date indicator hand! Would love to review it, but at present I do not know anyone who has that piece... if it comes across my hands it will definitely feature on the channel :)

Guys, don’t forget that most AD’s will take 20% off the msrp. At $2000, with two straps and a deployant clasp on one, it’s not a bad value for a Tudor any way.

if i can get it for 1500 Euro used is it good value? At least I will not go down much from there. ETA Movement ok, but that means i do not have to pay 600 Euros for Service like i would with an Explorer 1. I also prefer the Styling of the Tudor over the Explorer but i wish it would also have 39mm (and I am a big Guy) that would better fit its vintage Style.

It's all relative mate - the Codek Spiral with a well regulated 2824 was going for $125, and might make you feel like you got ripped off. On the other extreme Breitling, B&M, IWC, and Thomas Prescher are some brands with even more expensive 2824 pieces. Also keep in mind that there are 4 grades of 2824 and the one in your Hamilton is the bottom one.

DON’T LET THE ‘softness’ fool you - «full thickness of some form» (leather band); you say at 9:38 - NO, LAMINATED THIN LEATHER, that is what they are, certainly this one and in general most of the really soft leather bands. MULTIPLE LAYERS OF THIN makes one thick and soft and plyable band. 1)The SOFTNESS gives it away, and 2)the PAINTED SIDES give it away. I believe I see 5 layers within that band at 9:48, including the thin lining on the inside.
