I found myself surprisingly motivated by pessimistic thoughts, driven to action by what I previously thought was a "negative" perspective, but I now realize is neither "good" nor "bad," it's just another voice that needs to have equal say during the decision-making process. So, now pessimism has a "seat at the table," so to speak. What motivates you? It is akin to stoicism where they say that each day you should wake and be thankful. Then say 'momento mori ' (my spelling may not be correct -sorry). It means (approximately) remember that one day you will die. The point is to live each day to its fullest and be grateful for it and everything in it -friends, flowers, sunshine or solitude, leaves and rain.

Sometimes we don't know what sunshine is until we've been out in the rain'. Timber, so glad your travels through the storm were safe and glad you saved the receipt. lol All the best in 2023 on your continued journey. Namaste!

A hopeful pragmatist is what I like to describe myself as and is akin to what Timber is conveying in this 'Pessimism Podcast'. I was forced to learn in my twenties, when I fell ill with an incurable debilitating disease, that my dreams, plans, aspirations I thought I had time to do will never come to be. I thought I would be able take that holiday kayaking the beautiful Kimberley gorges, I thought I had endless opportunities for career paths, I thought I had time to save for my future, I assumed I always had tomorrow and the tomorrow I believed in gave me options that just aren't available to me now. It is great to dream, plan and hope for the future but to assume that your future self will be the same as today or that your opportunities will be the same as they are today would be a mistake. Just as it was for me, unexpectedly, without warning and without time to prepare, tomorrow may not be what you imagine it to be and the only thing for certain is what you have today, what you feel today, what you know today, who you are today.
