Mice. What's the difference between Wood mice / Field mice and House mice.
Why should you care?!!!
DO NOT USE POISON (rodenticide) on mice unless you know they are House mice!!!
This video explains why you should never use rodenticides on Wood mice or Field mice. Only on House mice, and it should only be used if all other NON TOXIC methods of getting rid of mice has been exhausted.

There is a tiny house mouse comes to my bird feeder. Always just the one. I'll be honest, it looks adorable but i dont want it breeding. I know mice are all about scent so I've bleach the ground around it and put motor nipple grease on the pole so it can't climb. Outside of removing the feeder any tips? I heard peppermint is good to ward off?

It’s not going to be a house mouse as house mice live in houses ☺️ I’d say it’s a field mouse. It’s probably not just one to be honest…no mice are loners ☺️ where there’s one there will be more. Peppermint is just an old wives tale.

@@PestInterceptors I've never seen more than 1 at any one time and my guess is it's a juvenile and has left the nest. It's small and grey. House mice will happily live in gardens and burrows in hedges etc as well as outhouses. I was told there is a tip to see if it's a wood or house mouse. If it's a wood mouse it will take th food and run to it's nest and eat it. If it's a house mouse it will jst eat where it finds the food. This little guy eats away where it is.

I was playing a game on the laptop last night, and I look down, and theres a mouse just sitting there near the bedroom door on the carpet. It took me a few seconds to figure out what I was looking at. Then I just said the word "mouse" and it ran, lightning fast, so fast I had to question which way it went. Right or left? I stood up, looked down, and checked behind the desk next to the door. There it was. A mouse. Behind the desk. I have two really bad knees, been going on years now. If I lay down on the floor, it ain't easy to even get up. I also cant move fast anymore. So this was gonna be an operation. Required planning. I got a bowl the size of a dinnerplate, and set it down. Then, like in that film The Green Mile, I realized that if I just lifted the desk, it would run off and get under any other of the 20 or so things in the room. So I started emptying everything little by little. Took two fucking hours! Finally, I was like "OK mouse! Everythings moved! I'm coming!". I'd set up two escapes with towels, a natural place for the mouse to run if I missed it with the bowl. I also opened the front door and jammed it open. Then I lifted the desk..... ....no fucking mouse. Little bastard obviously gave me the slip while I was working. Hopefully it ran out the front door. Not seen it since. But the room is now very clean and organized.

A fully grown mouse can fit through the tiniest of holes. If you can fit a pencil in a hole a mouse can squeeze through it! Ps. He’ll be back 😉

@@PestInterceptors Oh yeah, he came back! The next day! Was just sitting there on the carpet in front of me, watching me on the laptop. I glanced up and saw it and said "HELL NO!" and it ran off behind the desk again! Taking the PISS! I wasn't falling for that again, so I just opened the door and the front door, and waited. But it didn't leave. I checked on it 30 minutes later, still there behind the desk, 1/2 an inch wall to desk space. Then, about two hours later, I heard a noise like it was climbing up the desk, against the wall. I sat there with the bowl ready, but the noise moved to the lowest drawer, then the one above it, then the top drawer (sock drawer) and I heard it rummaging around in socks and paintbrushes. Then it stopped. The mouse last been living in that sock drawer for 3 weeks now. Little bastard wakes up at 2-3am, climbs out the drawer, drinks some water and eats a biscuit, then fucks off under the door into the house for an hour or two looking for females. Doesn't find shit, comes back in here and goes to sleep. Unreal. Now the weathers warmer, I'm getting rid of it. I made a run upto the window, and I figured out how to block the door gap, it's only means of escape from the room. He thinks he can just stay here. Brave little fucker! :D It can't stay here.

So are field mice usually bigger? I set humane traps in my house but they haven't caught anything. Then I saw one of the mice and it looked very big for a mouse (and did have a lighter belly). I thought maybe the reason the humane trap didn't work is because the mouse was too big to go inside it.

Does anyone ever have both field mice and house mice living together in the same home? I live in the Northeastern part of the United States, in New Jersey, but I still think your videos are relevant because I think the mouse species are the same here. I've been catching the white bellied field mice in my kitchen lately, but I think I've also caught the smaller house ones in different rooms before. I think they're coming inside because it's winter and they like to get away from the cold. Do field mice tend to cause as bad of an infestation as house mice do?
@PestInterceptors

@Mellisa0774 Field mice are much easier to catch and breed much slower than House mice. House mice are breeding machines! One pregnant female can become 2000 mice in a year! In a house, Field mice will usually only produce a tiny amount in comparison.

@@PestInterceptors I saw a second video after I watched yours, talking about deer mice. Do you have those in England? They look very similar to field mice, but with rounder ears. On second thought, I'm not 100% sure if what I have is actually deer mice or field mice. (I live in the Northeastern part of the U.S.) I caught four, what I believe to be field mice, on my kitchen counter, but I've also caught what I believe to be the smaller house mice, in bedrooms. The field mice come out from behind the stove. I've actually seen them squeeze out of the tiny gap between the stove and the wall. They also get inside the kitchen drawers, so we've had to stop keeping utensils in the drawers and keep them in a plastic container on the counter instead. That's the most annoying thing. I have no idea how to stop them from getting inside the closed drawers because I have no idea how they could even be getting in there. Did you ever have this issue with any of your clients? Did you ever put a night vision camera inside a kitchen drawer to see how they get in there? Would any kind of camera even work inside a closed drawer since it's complete pitch dark in there?

@@Melissa0774 mice are fantastic climbers and can collapse their rib cages to fit through the tiniest of gaps. They will be climbing up the back of the units, over the top of the units back boards or through pipe holes or something similar. A house mouse can get through a 5mm hole! I would look around outside your house for holes and fill them, cut away vegetation especially creepers from touching the house. Get air brick covers if the airbrick holes are bigger than 5mm. Then trap the ones inside if it any mouse other than House mice. Sometimes house mice will need rodenticides using because they are super clever. Also to add to your predicament, if you are attached to another house you will need to do the same there too, as two houses joined together is just one big house to mice! You can send a clear photo and we may be able to identify. One from above and one from below.

So we found 26 holes and tons of tiny trails all over the side yard. I put the water hose into one of the larger holes and 8 “house” mice ran out. 6 weeks later now there are tiny baby mice. How do we get them to move? We don’t want to harm them.

Well making the adult (parent) mice vacate the property leaving behind the young wasn’t as humane as you thought was it. There will probably be ones too young to leave the nest and they will die through starvation. You will probably get an almighty smell for a few weeks and then a house full of flies for a couple of weeks once the smell has gone. The only humane thing you can do for the young ones you are seeing is to humanely dispatch them. They won’t be able to fend for themselves without their family group to show them how to survive. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news, but facts are facts. Using kill traps is nearly always the answer. Although it doesn’t sound kind, it is actually by far the most humane way. Here’s a page from our website to explain better why catch and release of pests is really not humane at all. Good luck. www.pestinterceptors.co.uk/post/catch-and-release-of-rats-mice-and-squirrels-is-it-legal

@@PestInterceptors yeah no. We had no idea there were babies in there. We only saw adult mice. They’re no where near my house, they’re just on one side of the yard. Curious, should a typical rainstorm occur, won’t the young die? Or will the adults move them to safety. Our Great Danes keep covering the holes and they just keep making new ones 🤦🏼‍♀️

No. If anything cats bring them in the house as a gift to you. They like to keep them alive to play with them. If they lose a pregnant one in your house then you will probably have a mouse problem a few weeks later.

We've got a mouse appeared in our garden this year We put solid reclaimed railway sleepers in garden One has a hole on th end We'd seen mice coming from next door garage eaves to eat bird fatballs hanging out last year We never told neighbour cos they'd got pest control out and we didn't want them dead Then last month one appeared in our garden Started sitting in the opening of the sleeper like a doorway which is perfectly positioned to see from the kitchen I look mealworms and seed for birds and placed them on top of border edge near the hole Little fella is now happy , after 2 weeks, to come out furtively initially to collect or eat food just a couple of yards away from where i crouch. It's like its ME who's been trained So whereas i assumed (s)he's a woodmouse, it may be a house mouse We've got a totally pesticide rodenticide free garden and house We're trying to promote nature here in.a suburban jungle where concrete plastic grass and slate floor driveways are king But what if we hated all critters and used rodenticide ? Wouldn't we be putting predators at risk if they ate our house garden mouse? And maybe one of the cats around here that are a plague on wildbirds mught get ill if they ate it ..... bit harsh. I'll stick with my water pistol and citrus peels for cat deterrence and let mousey live out a natural short lifespan bringing us joy harming no-one

@PestInterceptors
@PestInterceptors 5 ай бұрын
@davidj.balducci8128 we don’t like the catch and release traps very much at all. The problem is that although they seem kind and friendly to the mice they really aren’t. An hour for a mouse is like a day for a human (it’s all relative to longevity). If a pro is using them they should check the traps every 6 hours 24/7! Because otherwise it is causing distress to the mouse. It’s a complicated problem isn’t it! The other thing is that mice are a pack/group animal and being trapped away from and released into an area they have no family is a really bad thing for the mouse. In fact if it’s released onto other mouse territory it will probably be killed! Crazy eh 🤗
