We rescued Peach our pet crow in June of 2015 and he has become a truly wonderful companion just like a dog. He comes when you call him and loves being petted too. We have rescued other crows and magpies and each has their own personality but only peach comes on command like a dog does.

All of these birds were rescued from a bad situation and 4 of them became imprinted on us. Cherry the crow had a broken wing which was surgically repaired but can never fly again. They would have all most likely not have survived if we just ignored them. We are not saving every bird in this world but when we see a bird in trouble we also take them to a local wildlife rehab. Imprinted birds can not be released if you did not know. Watch this video to learn more of why do we have these birds in captivity. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/muCqZJppqL_blWg.html

Alongside rodents and insects, Corvus use to be the major threat to crops. It's not like they suddenly stopped to be that today, it's just urbanites don't have to deal with growing live stock and harvesting directly, so no wonder some of them see that birds just as a weirdly shaped dogs.

I had a crow once and it loved to play. I would hide some food anywhere in the room and he would smell it and find it . All while drooling from his beak...hehe. He also would love to steal small blue lego from my son. If my son was playing in the same room the crow would ignore him but if he hid the lego from him he would fly down and steal the piece from him. If you ignored the crow he would fly down with the piece and place it down . If you went to grab it he would quickly pick it up and fly off with it. They like to tease and never give it back to you. Very cuddly too . I would say Joe do you want me to scratch your ear? He always would land on your arm and cuddle up to you and would also drool while i gently rubbed his ear located on the side of the heads. The smartest bird around.

We had a large cattle ranch in eastern Washington and a Raven showed up and just hops inside our bunk house and made itself at home. We had only bought the ranch recently and were amazed how friendly and unafraid she was. Come to find out it was a pet of a friend of the previous owners son. We got really attached to her especially my mom who the raven figured out quickly that my mom had the most treats. and of course Mom spoiled her with all sorts of tidbits. Lucy was her name and she would fly out and visit all of us a couple times a week until we eventually moved away. We all stopped off at her owners home to say good bye and she actually knew what was going on and snuggled and kissed all of us . She even flew along side of our truck for about a mile until we stopped and gave each one of us a peck on our cheeks and headed back home. Truly an amazing animal. We found out she lived for many years after we left. Probably made friend with the new owners of our ranch also.

Correct, but i would argue among those, crows already have the most accurate reputation. As most people already know that they are pretty smart. Gold fish are probably the ones who drew the shortest straw in that lottery. Have effectively about dog level intelligence and life span, get often kept like insects and die in 1-3 years. Probably followed by pigs.

If you admire or are fascinated with crows, I suggest you read a wonderful novel called “Mink River”. A beautiful story set on the Oregon coast, featuring a crow called Moses who was rescued and raised by an elderly nun. After her death he makes his home and communicates with a Native American couple who live in the town and oversees all that is going on in the area. One of my favorite books ever.

On my daily walks my crow friends land near me, awaiting their favorite treat; unshelled roasted peanuts. Will pick up two at a time most times. I love seeing them as a family, where the last years brood stay around for two years helping to raise another brood. So wise, patient and amazingly caring... Also, they will not have any owl or hawk near them, without sounding the alarm, and diving on them fearlessly with great precision. Lately have seen huge flocks in the skies, which is always a treat.

Ravens are much larger. Both have beaks that the upper part continues to grow and they naturally keep it trimmed to match the lower part. It can grow to become such a hook that they have difficulty eating. In the wild, you'll see crows sharpening their beaks like a chef does with a knife and steel.

Since we are only in residence on and off for months at a time here, I call Harry in the driveway to let him know That I’m back, and within a few minutes, he comes calling for his goodies. He brings me gifts from time to time. He doesn’t like it when other crows here at the beach try to take his goodies. I can actually recognize his caws from the other crows now. He also has a little scar on his right front wing so that makes him easy to recognize when he comes in. I always look forward to seeing him when we come to the beach for the winters.

My ONLY complaint about birds is they can be noisy. A kid in my neighbourhood was a total brat. He was yelling at his mum and little brother one day outside and some crows were sitting on a telephone wire and started cawing. He turned around and looked up, yelled at the birds. Then he threw a stone, but missed by a mile. His mum scolded him. After that, they'd follow him around, telling him off, sometimes swooping past him. If his Mum was with him, they kept their distance but were still loud. Did not do it to her, his brother or other kids. Smart birds!

Years ago I found a baby crow a few blocks from my house and there didn’t seem to be any adult crows around. I picked him up, brought him home and put him in my porch which is enclosed with all windows. A few hours later there was at least 20 crows outside my porch going crazy. They clearly wanted their baby back and I was more than happy to return him to them. I put the baby bird on my lawn and after a little while it hopped away with the adult birds keeping watch over him. I have no idea how they all found him when he didn’t make any noises while he was on the porch. The only thing I can think is that they spotted him through the window. Definitely very smart birds.

So grateful to the crows, ravens and magpies, they clear the roof and gutters of moss and seeds from Sycamore trees.I always call out a thank-you and they seem to respond.Beautiful intelligent birds. They sharpen their beaks on the tv aerial.A fair exchange for all their hard work.
