My goodness it's their home and yard let them keep their pig. People can be ridiculous and so bossy at times

People are actually showing up to city council meetings to control what others keep in their household.

These people disgust me. Its her property. Her freedom to have a pig.

My neighbour's dog barks nonstop outside and they never shut him up, yet I'm not issuing a complaint to the city.

All these neighbors are bored and have nothing better to do than to be trolls. If its legal to have the animal in your possession, then there shouldn't be any arguments against it by people not involved. And others are just jealous that their dogs or cats don't love them as much as the pig loves his family. Stupid trolls.

Some people are just miserable!! Why the hell should the neighbors care if this family has a pet pig?! It's an indoor pet! They don't plan on raising livestock. Pigs are clean and intelligent- some argue more intelligent than dogs! And what pet doesn't provide emotional support?! So, the husband had him certified for a "service" he'd been providing the entire time. Ugh, these stories make me want to scream. I feel so bad for this family.

It's partly a generational gap, the generation that grew up viewing animals as mere things, there to feed, clothe and work for us but not much else and those who view animals as emotional beings who share the planet with us and can become members of the family.

An acquaintance of mine had this problem back in the 80s, when potbelly pigs first became popular. No farm animals allowed in the city. Certain neighbors complained. He worked around the problem by telling everyone that it wasn't really a pig at all, but a rare German breed of dog, bred to resemble a pig, called a "schweinhund".

If the pig is not causing too much noise then leave the poor pig alone, I'm sure there's more important things to object about these people need to really get a life seriously !.

If my neighbor had a happy, well cared for pig I would be OVER THE FREAKING MOON!!!! I would thank my lucky stars I got to wake up every day and watch a beautiful pig walk around, I think I would die if they actually were are friendly as these people and allowed me to even pet their pig! These people are wasting an opportunity I would love to have!

Pigs are amazing pets! I have 2. They’re loving and smart and they’re super clean. They don’t produce stinky smells. They poop at the farthest place from their beds. Those locals are dead wrong. Little pigs are super smart and lovable. They’re like dogs, only smarter.

You have a pet pig not live stock. Livestock- are domesticated animals raised in an agricultural setting to produce commodities such as food, fiber and labor. This article does not discuss poultry or farmed fish, although these, especially poultry, are commonly included within the meaning of "livestock". If the pig has done nothing destructive in the community than your tender footed busy body neighbors should have nothing to complain about. And if they win get a monkey and teach it to sling poo. Just another reason why I don't like living in the rich areas of Virginia.

It's hard to fathom that their are people out there that don't live in your house or pay your taxes and think they have anything to say about the pets you have or people who live there .....your home, your land should be yours and yours alone! Any and all of those people that complained and caused that family or any family undo stress and financial burden should be ashamed and responsible monetarily. Just disgusting!

I vote for the pig, pigs are smarter then dogs they are one of the top five smartest animals. This should not even be an issue. Let's sign a petition on who wants the pig to stay!

Ridiculous wasting court money against a pig? Some dogs are more noisy (I know a Yorkie never stops baring xD) just cause they aren't a type of livestock and not a common meal it's aright to keep them but not a pig?. Just a waste of time and money when there are real issues, let them keep their damn pig, it's nice to see somebody caring and loving for a pig than slaughtering it for bacon for once!!!

What is wrong with these neighbors? I know the need to keep things nice for property value. I have lived next to human beings who kept their yard looking like a sty without any pigs. However, it seems like the only thing the neighbors are objecting to is the actual presence of the pig itself, which is ridiculous. It is obviously not a farm animal. The size of the pig, the way that it behaves, the fact that it is an indoor pet...these are not the hallmarks of a soon-to-be ham sandwich. To object, not in response to any adverse action (noise, smell, etc...) but only to some imaginary line in the sand is just narrow-minded foolishness.

Let's face it, people don't want to see a pet pig roaming their streets because it may force them to think of pigs as anything other than faceless bacon.

Gotta love the critics. I have a Yorkie Terrier mix that has helped me through some very stressful and emotional times. I had to move out of state and pretty much be on my own away from my family for 3 years. I'm not good at meeting new people. But animals now when you are down and out. Don't know what I would have done without her.

i understand homeowners association but it sux. my fiance who is a country boy hates city people for moving in and making his mom get rid of her horse. we still keep our chickens though.

I have terminal cancer. My pig my emotional support animal. I would not want to get out of bed without her. Pigs are very very clean and very very intelligent. Absolutely great pets. It is ignorant to argue anything else.

I am so sorry your family had to go through this. I have two mini pigs who have shown me a love and have given me support through emotional times in my life just like your Tucker has done for you. I pray for nothing but good things for your family and for Tucker.

I have pet pigs and its no different than having a dog. Its so sad to know there are people who have nothing else to do then to sit around and find fault and cause trouble for others.

the emotional support is a good point and I understand that, I used to be depressed and asked my parents for a pet pig(not mentioning that depressed part to them since I usually keeo things to myself) and it really helped me when I got my pig I felt myself progressing but sadly my pig got stolen from my back yard,we don't have a fence (but he was kept in a cozy pen) so that was a major reason for that happening. my parents offered to buy me another pig but I didn't want another pig because only having my pig for couple of moths I got attached to him so much and I don't want to loose another animal....

I have a pet pig and a few dogs. My neighbor complained about my dogs so again the natural thing and got twice as many dogs. This is probably why he never complained about the Pig.

My next door neighbor had a pig for years a bigger one than these and never once did he ever cause a problem for any of us neighbors. He did not smell or make a peep.

Funny how it is perfectly legal to torture animals and create toxic lakes of poop and it is fine in those neighbors book, but keeping one small pig in a way it deserves to be kept is a big issue. I think there is absolutely no reason for this hate, except that people are uncomfortable seeing animal they designate for killing and torturing, as loving pet. Repressed guilt can manifest itself strangely. How pig is more inconvenient that a big dog? We should stop designating live creatures as meat or source of other food or income, that what we should stop doping and eventually craziness will stop. I seriously pity those neighbors what is in their heads and hearts? So much fear and hate... Pigs are impossible not to love, they are so kind and smart, you need to be literally blinded not to see that, but years of buying tortured bacon can do it, I am sure. For disallowing pets the only concerns should be danger, size and noise.

As a kid, I knew a man who loved his pig so much that when he died, the man had him buried in the man's Cadillac because the pig loved being in that car. He was not a wealthy man, but loved his pig.

with just 1 pig, it shouldn't be a problem. Clean up after them, and it doesn't smell at all. my wife wants a pig. and i don't. Cause we live in a block, and our backyard isn't big enough for a pig and 3 dogs.

I have an Emotion Support Pig too. He is a kunekune just like Tucker. And truly, these animals are wonderfully intelligent and social. They adore cuddling and being with their humans. From day one, my pig has been a best friend for me.

Pigs are amazing animals. They are number fifth in terms of smartness whereas dogs are somewhere between numbers 23-27. A pig has a mental range of a three year old human child and is extremely loyal and affectionate. They are also actually very clean animals and are litter trained form three days old! It's the pig farmers who keep them in dirty stalls and give them the bad names. Pathetic people and pathetic laws. There's nothing wrong in mass killing animals and trophy hunting and people get in trouble for rescuing animals or giving them shelter or having a pig that's not harming anyone.

Why can't the city council specify that the exemption is only being given for a single pig being kept as a pet, but not for a farm raising pigs as livestock? It doesn't seem so difficult to me.

When your life is so peaceful and you want to create a disturbance by complaining to a random person about how dirty their pet is, and some people are dumb enough to classify pig as a wild animal. Have they ever seen a wild boar, javelina? Pigs are one of the smartest animals in the planet.
