You could definitely use one of the Wedgit bars. Comes with mounts that you could attach to the weatherstrip and it wouldn't pull it down because you wouldn't be dropping it in from a height and the weight of the Wedgit is a lot less than a 2x4. www.petdoorstore.com/pet-doors/wedgit-better-than-a-charlie-bar/

Foam adhesive weatherstrips on the sides is a good idea and you should use it. The Fast Fit in the video comes with enough for one side of the panel, the more expensive Thermo Panel 3e comes with enough for both sides. Just need to fix gaps at top or bottom with the wheel adjustment rather than adding more weather stripping.

They just take up space, there is no way around it. If it is a real issue and you can't live with it, consider an Autoslide or a Pet Door Guys window replacement. The Autoslide opens and closes the whole door to let pets out. The Pet Door guys replaces the glass in your slider and puts the dog door in the glass. If the pet door frame arrives bowed, then you roll up a towel and slam the door on it to straighten it out. I'd have to find one that was bowed or take one apart and reassemble it badly to demonstrate it, which I'm not inclined to do. Bowed frames don't happen very often. You can tell if you have that problem because the slider will hit the pet door in the middle but not at the top or bottom.

The door should come with foam weather strip that you can apply to the side of the pet door. Higher end ones come with enough weather strip for both sides so you can get a better seal against the wall. You can use foam weather strip tape from the hardware store if you don't have any. Get the softest you can find.

Not for this door. There really isn't an easy way to do this on the Fast Fit. You would have to move the pet door down and move the spacer under the flap up. Would require drilling the holes for the spacer in the right place. On the older models the pet door holes have to be redrilled as well, I can't recall if you need to redrill on the newer style. If you have an Ideal Fast Fit or a Thermo Panel they have about 3/4" that you can cut off the top. Not sure about other brands.

If you're using a Fast Fit or a Thermo Panel there is a simple solution that won't require returning and exchanging. These doors have an empty slot at the top that you can cut down with a jigsaw. If you don't have the tools just find a local metal shop and take it down there and they'll have it done in 2 minutes. Very simple.

No, I didn't want to drill holes in the door just to show how to install. It's pretty easy; two holes to mount the lock to the back of the sliding door, one hole into the stationary frame for the pin to insert into to lock the door.

The original sliding door lock won't work. The various panels come with different types of generic locks. The one in the video uses a pin lock, another popular model comes with a clamp on lock that attaches to the track behind the door. We also sell the Wedgit bar which works like a broomstick behind the track but has brackets so that it can be mounted at a comfortable height, and it expands when you twist it so it can be used to push the slider into the panel and seal up minor gaps: www.petdoorstore.com/pet-doors/wedgit-better-than-a-charlie-bar/

If it's an Ideal Fast Fit or a Thermo Panel the top piece that slides up and down to adjust the height is shaped like an H when viewed from the side. You can cut down to the crossbar of the H, about 3/4" on the Fast Fit and I think a little more on the Thermo Panel. The plastic caps in the Fast fit corners just pull right out.

This particular door in the video is 80" tall, but we have panels for the shorter 76 or 77 inch doors, and also for the 96" taller models, and we can have some doors built custom for oddball heights.

If it's this kind of door, should be just loosening the knobs, lifting the bottom of the door up, and swinging the bottom out.

Sometimes you have to do that yes. Need a flat surface for the pet door to sit against, so if it's in the way then remove.

Loosed up the knobs, grab the sides and compress the spring loaded top, then swing the bottom of the panel out and remove.

On this Fast Fit door or the Thermo Panel you can take the top off and cut about 3/4" off. I've done it with a band saw, could probably use a jigsaw as well. Just tape up the part really well so that when you cut it you don't scratch it by dragging the shoe of the saw across the metal. With the other common pet door by Pet Safe there is no room to cut.
