Nobody deserved to be called "The Greatest Ever" more than Pete. The work he put in, the vision he had and the man he found himself to be. And, in dying young, while doing the thing he loved so deeply since childhood, he solidified his place in a world where basketball is life and heaven is indeed a playground. Long live the legacy of the Pistol. Thank you, Pete.

I never got to watch him play but as a fan of the game of basketball I have looked at some of his classic games and watched highlights of Pete. This dude was awesome!

This guy was so good. The best college career ever. 44 points a game average and in 3 YEARS scored more points than any player. He was also an amazing passer. So skilled. Loved the guy.

I wish he played today. Sport Center every time :D

I never realized how much Pete Marovich sounded like Joe Namath. The cadence, rhythm, and tone of their speech is practically the same.

Pete talks about how basketball would be played in the 70s and there was a lot of great basketball played in the 70s. I would have loved to have seen Dr J and Pete play together in Atlanta but the courts weren't having that.

Very prophetic. Wow. He literally predicted what would eventually happen and with such assurance. I can proudly say he's my favorite athlete of all time and I was born on his 22nd birthday, June 22, 1969! 😉

What a prophet - especially when he talks about players doing new things in the air. The game was transitioning above the rim as well as Pete's ridiculous skills being more common among nba players. I wish his knee would have given him one more year. Then he could have won a championship with the Celtics. His dedication to the game off the court was what separated him from so many others.

After 30 years I still remember his exciting game. Amazing how he predicted the future of the NBA.

Besides were going off topic, Pistol pete was a great player,very crafty and creative and he looks like ricky rubio, Whether rubio develops into a player like pete will be shown in the future.

@Chooify rubio is in his first year, and the game is way different and more technical than it was in the 70's.

Rubio can't be like Pistol, he can only be like Rubio. to be honest, i don't think he can ever be even close to Pistol's game, besides he flashy game (which they both shared) Pistol was a much more of a complete player. if anything i think that Drazan petrovic was the closest European version of Pistol and they shared the same type of game.

@AdreasTheGreat of course magic shot such a great percentage he was way taller then the guy guarding him, and im not comparing rubio to magic, you cannot compare or critique any player in his first year. also my first comment had nothing to do with them as players but rather with their similar appearance. look at tape of jerry west, walt,elgin, tiny archibald all less then average dribblers with their left hand. even on defense they would never react to a wide open steal.

Such a shame he never got to play for a contender team until the very twilight of his career, and then his untimely death. They don't make 'em like Pistol any more...Only Micheal Jordan could be considered in his caliber, as far as position and skill. RIP...and thanx for all the hoop memories.

@jdg62269 Unfortunately, he could only envision 1,2 or 3 steps ahead of everybody on the court and the 3 steps ahead of the season - other, he would have been truly depressed from playing on those mediocre teams.

@AdreasTheGreat Am I from Spain? Wtf does that have to do with anything. Firstly in the 70's you would be considered a good player even though you couldn't dribble with your left hand. And the fact that the game is more technical makes it more difficult to be successful. You can't even make an argument about someone in his first year, and rubio might not be able to shoot but neither could magic johnson. the best pg of all time.

Players can always develop through time, Steve nash was a less then average pg up until his third year with the mavericks. I am not dissing pete I am just saying rubio has room to grow and my first comment was based on appearance, nothing has to do with basketball

He's very good, but it's like comparing between orlando wooldrige and lebron james. both forwards, both talented players still one is one of the best ever and the other was a very good nba player - nothing to dismiss but nevertheless nota real comparison.
