Pete is always interesting. some people here saying its naive rubbish that he would be embarrassed about now..i dont think so. embarrassed by the way he says it, but not the aim or content. what is embarrassing is the utter rubbish pop stars talk now - little consumerist rabbits with no grand ideas at all. at least the musicians then were trying think a bit, even if they did say odd stuff in the process. that is much better than hardly thinking at all.

Townshend is probably one of the last pop/rock 'stars', with that interesting of a mindset. He was a seeker; bright, intelligent, creative and pushing boundaries. We've lost those of his ilk, from the music scene. John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, to name a few, have long departed. Men like these just can't be replaced. I'm glad that Pete didn't die, before he got old.

I have a book by another Meher Baba devotee, Kate Thomas (''The Destiny Challenge'') who also later had a connection with Idries Shah; but the way she looks down her nose on everyone apart from her son, and it's casual homophobia makes it almost unreadable for me now. Shame cuz it's interesting. Ironically Meher Baba (I deny he was the reincarnation of Jesus and Muhammad as he claimed) was VERY against drugs. K.T. also warns the dangers to esoteric development thru drug use.

What Pete says here sounds great, until you consider he's circling an alcoholic drain which will soon sap his genius and fuck him up spiritually -- until he beats it, that is. The Who are my favorite band, but listening to Pete get on his high horse about psychedelics is a bit much to take. It was booze, stimulants, and heroine that was destroying the best artists of the time, including him.
