Pete Townshend of The Who, the full interview and performance with his father on Parkinson, March 7th 1981. Recorded by a friend in London, who I did a tape trade with in 1984. There are a few more rare Townshend shows on that tape, which I simply never looked at them until years later.

I love this man. I wrote him a letter back in the late 1970's, and he answered me. I have a massive photo on my wall of him, which I've never seen anywhere else, and it's the greatest concert photo I've ever seen. I bought it as a poster in 1970. Above it is an autographed guitar from him. As I writer and a poet, he inspires me daily and that poster is in my direct view as I write. Thank you, Pete. You have touched the world.

The most wonderful thing about KZfaq is being able to view materials, interviews, shows, etc from decades ago featuring your favorite artists(in this case Pete Townshend) that you didnt even know existed(because in this case it aired across the pond) and even if knowing of its existence had no way or hope of ever viewing.

I love Pete Townshend. Aside from his artistry, always a sharp dresser for one. For a guy who was not traditionally handsome at the time, I'm glad he didn't change anything in his face. He has beautiful blue eyes with dark hair, grey now, but he's made the most of what he's got. It's just an observation because more than ever now, people are extremely critical of looks and so many resort to plastic surgery to fit a mold. If Pete had fixed his nose, he would be kind of bland. I think he looks like an emperor.

@@FunkyMonk_96 Like the other guy said, he’s not arrogant. He’s confident because a certified genius. To some people, that comes off as arrogance. Richard Stilgoe - wrote comic tunes on a TV consumer show but went on to work with Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Michael Parkinson a great interviewer of a type that's rare now - he interviewed interesting people in such a way that they often opened up with him and with the other interviewees. It was not interviewer as star in their own right so questions were just to promote a product with no content. Jonathan Ross could achieve that height sometimes

Just in Peter Townsend is in fact of this earth. Not at all what I was expecting. This guy in my mind has always been the Rock Messiah. Larger than life itself. To see that he comes from such a grounded background almost has me feeling a bit ripped off. He the Seeker.
