Funny how the sequel was planned for the SNES, but severe hardware limitations made it impossible.... so they just messed with the protoype until they ended up with Mario Kart. XD When life gives you lemons I guess...

@@naejimba wow I never knew that, Mario kart on the SNES was pretty decent at the time, got it after a game shop importer suggested it to me. Battle mode was heaps of fun, just wished the single player mode was full screen

@@danielnicholson6174 , haha yeah everything was designed for the resolution of split screen and adding the full screen would be wasted space; you gotta understand I've failed at trying to do a couple rom hacks and this shit is like going to space with the tech of a calculator packed in! It's incredible! It's in hex code (eww), every character shares a color palette with another, Mario and Luigi's sprites are the same except from about the chin up, etc. Everything except the items/pipes, characters, and the little bit of sky up top is just a single, flat image that is stretched with mode 7. I forget the exact number but it was only a few people who made it and they were all just fucking brilliant. The battle mode was great wasn't it? These people gave such great experiences to my brother and I when we were kids.

I’m going to take a guess it’s more down to people not wanting to buy into Nintendo’s online service to play a game that’s been absent for so long…. No matter how cheap the base sub appears to be.

I'd love to play except I don't own a Switch and don't have their online service... and as much fun as I'd have with it I just can't justify the purchase since I already own a PC that is much more powerful than a console and does a million other things. Artificially limiting games to a proprietary platform doesn't convince someone in my position; all it does is frustrates the consumer. I'm sure it is a big part of what leads to people pirating their games as well. Console companies actually LOSE money from selling consoles and physical accessories and only make up the difference and create profits though the sales of games... the value is in the IP and they would sell more copies of the game without a several hundred dollar barrier placed on top for the initial purchase. Also, making console exclusives often times doesn't actually push the console and only hurts the sales of the game. KI on XBox and Pokken on Nintendo are two fantastic examples... I see why they thought on paper it would work. People who play fighting games are on PC on PS and they would like these people to purchase their system. However none of them are going to buy this system for a single game and that's exactly what happened. It doesn't take Nostradamus to predict this either since they use fight sticks/leverless. Nintendo didn't allow you to use anything at tournaments except for their controller (which most FGC don't play on) and it is likely the stick they bought that was PC/PS whatever compatible probably won't work on the XBox. So we have the same situation as me and my computer... they aren't going to spend money to buy the same thing they already have except it does less. I still have my SNES from when I was a child and it works PERFECTLY. All of the buttons are still good. Now we have remote straps breaking, joysticks drifting, etc. that they try to deny as long as possible... the quality of the hardware has gone down and they lose money on it... so why not just ditch it?

Because lukewarm was all it deserved. It isn't fun. These tracks aren't designed for 99 cars and there's nothing fun about getting yanked out of a race because reasons. It's stupid and I want a REAL F-Zero game.

This was always my strategy when I used to play on the SNES, on corners you always use shoulder buttons to drift while also “hopping” (tapping acceleration)

It is SO satisfying that you can basically run these courses almost exactly the same as you did back then. Boost is a little more flexible thanks to it being tied to health instead of laps, but playing this just felt so GOOD.

Another strategy I was taught was to let go of the accelerator and hold on to L or R while rounding tight corners

@@esmooth919 yeah some maps I do that then tap the acceleration to maintain a tiny sliver of momentum

@@madnessarcade7447 generally I’d agree with you, but I think it depends on the game. I prefer fun ideas and good art direction to more polygons and more realistic lighting any day of the week, but in games that are ostensibly simulations of reality, I’d rather play the game with the better graphics. For instance, I’d prefer to play the new gran turismo rather than the original if given the choice. But even so, I’d prefer any Burnout title to Gran turismo. It’s just more fun.

Like an indie title with retro graphics which is VERY popular. Smart move IMO and the changes are brilliantly thought out.

There is a physical release of Tetris 99 as it ended up getting paid single player content. It would be sick if that happened with this title too.

Tetris 99 is still up and running and has events every few months. It was also the only 99 game to be sold separately, physically, so it'll likely stay online for a while. Hopefully F-Zero is the same.
