I'm BEYOND THRILLED to present the long-awaited FULL episode of Peter Allen in This Is Your Life from 1977!!!!! I'm very grateful to Peter's super nice family (THANKS Buddy, Lynne, and Bryden!) for sending me a copy of it to share with all of Peter's fans and friends on KZfaq. His family appreciates how we are honoring his musical legacy.🎶

Host Roger Climpson surprises Peter after his concert at Sydney Regent Theatre on 17 September 1977. The audience remains to watch the show. What a lucky audience!🍀 They got to see Peter live in concert and then a live taping of him on a TV show! A 2-for-1 special indeed:)
There are a lot of people featured in this amazing 36-minute episode! Those featured include members of Peter's band and crew (including Gregory Connell and good friend Larry Rinehart), his spunky and hilarious mum Marion, his fabulous maternal aunts Betty, Nancy, and Jean, his lively childhood dance teacher Claire Napier, former Allen Brother Chris Bell, and one of his musical heroes Johnny O'Keefe!
I wish his sister was there to tell one of her stories of Peter to the viewers. I wonder what story she would have told about growing up together?
Sadly, Peter's father, Richard Woolnough was never the same after returning home from WWII after serving in the Australian Army and died of suicide in 1958, when Peter was 14 years old.
Peter also receives messages from Burt Bacharach and Liza, and video messages from Bandstand's Brian Henderson, manager Dee Anthony, co-songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, and music buddies Olivia Newton-John and Peter Frampton. Vegemite makes a special guest appearance as well!!!!
Peter was always smiling, even as a baby. The baby photos are so cute! He and his mother are simply beautiful together; they are just beaming!😊 They are such a delight to watch and can make anyone smile with their infectious laughter and amazing rapport. Their strong bond will always be forever linked.💞

Faaaabulous to locate a copy of this rarity and one with such clear resolution. A heartwarming ( and for fans of Peter and Marion, undoubtedly wistful) reminder of what a unique talent Australia and the world lost in 1992. This of course was 1977 and a pivotal moment for PA : the first major reception by his hard-to-charm home country, of Peter as the real deal , on the back of I Go To Rio. His genuine surprise and slight alarm (with that great smile, eyerolling and banter) makes you laugh out loud. A lovely gift to Peter's fans from Lynne , Bryden, Buddy and family. And more evidence of the forensic talents of the curator of this special You Tube channel !

@@TheMusicMagicofPeterAllen no, it hasn't. These days everything gets repeated, but back then This Is Your Life was event television and the episodes were never re-aired. If you missed it, that was it, bad luck. Home video was pretty rudimentary, expensive and rare.

I am in the uk but i feel Australian so sad watching OLIVIA think this was just before Grease i knew a lot of Peters songs but only discovered peter allen in the last year or so

Thanks! I think Peter got the biggest laugh when Olivia said thanks for writing the song ("I Honestly Love You") for me, which he didn't. He had already written the song when Olivia discovered the demo and recorded it. He planned on recording it himself which he did after Olivia. In a 1986 interview on the show Midday, Peter said he writes songs for himself not for those who will eventually be singing them.

This is a really great tape. The first part is a rough field edit, which is an amazing find. The part where Roger talks to the audience and asks them to stay in the theatre would not have gone to air. How fascinating to hear Burt Bacharach mentioning that they needed to write a song together. Maybe it was just a throwaway thought, but look how it ended up. This was only a month after Elvis' death, and about a year before JO'K's. Roger Climpson was the third and, in my opinion, best host of This Is Your Life in Australia (the first two being Mike Willesee and Digby Wolfe). He had just the right mix of humour, authority and dignity.

When Peter did TV shows he often had them make a copy for his family (especially for his mother), which were usually the unedited versions.
