Peter Fernandes GALAXY Take 1

This is one of several great Fusion tracks I recorded for Peter Fernandes recently. I had a blast recording drums on his album and I can't wait to hear the finished mixes. I'm playing a Maple/Mahogany DW Collector's Series kit and using Audix Mini D's on all the toms, an Audix D-6 in the kick drum, two Audix CSX112 ambient mic's, and Audix I-5 on the snare, 25A's as OH's and as HiHat Mic's and snare bottoms mic. The snare is a Maple/Mahogany Edge drum. All drums also have the Randy May Internal Miking System , with D-4's in all Toms, the D-6 in the kick drum and a SM-57 inside the snare drum pointing at the wires from the inside. The mix you're hearing is my headphone mix minus the click track. Yes, I am reading the chart for the song while tracking so excuse the intense looks to my left!

Technical, soo much notes played, yet groovy and smooth. Killer playing, as always man. Whenever I hear you play I get this ambivalent feeling of being inspired and demotivated at the same time.😄

Man I love this. This studio work speaks volumes to me. He’s so refined and so dedicated to being an awesome drummer. This wasn’t one of those “I’ll never be able to play that” type solo, it wasn’t some over produced track. It was just an awesome studio session. Well done 👏👏👏

awesome job on an awesome tune!!! right at the 2:00 mark, i found myself transported to the deck of the love boat, and that's a really cool thing ;-) i was just old enough to remember the 70's, and this hit all my buttons, but went well beyond into some of the amazing fusion that followed in the decades after

Great Job Thomas! I was going to ask if you had the click in your mix but you already answered that! Have you ever thought to use a different snare on different takes? I would really love to hear a brass shelled snare on a track like this this. Something around 4 to 6 inches and tuned in the resolving key of the song.. Do you ever do this or can you just use samples? Love your playing and love your videos!

Couldn’t agree more. The first and only time I ever played a DW kit I decided that day never to bother with them again, would genuinely rather a Pearl Export.
