Frampton had a unique problem. While lots of people were coming to his shows, nobody was really lining up to buy his albums. So what to do? Finally, the obvious dawned on him. “I need to release a live album!” He released Frampton Comes Alive. It was a Godzilla success. And the world was never the same again.

Peter has a great autobiography on audiobook. He’s very likeable but was naive and careless about his own career. It slowed him. He’ll say it was Sgt Pepper remake that did it.

Will listen again as I used to hear it on radio in 80s & 90s and was un-phased, especially after the first time. But this must be at least the 5th reaction I've watched to this same performance, and I've enjoyed them all and been duly impressed, especially with the guitar, and only the last two times with the drumming.

If you listen closely to the crowd shouts during quiet moments of this live recording, you may hear something that sounds like "Ballard High!". My high school buddy claims that was him shouting. I never quite believed him, but it sure does sound like that is what is being said.

If you really want to hear it, the "Frampton Comes Alive" version is the way to go. It's hard to explain what a huge monster of an album that was. There were so many songs from it getting so much airplay that it was nearly impossible to listen to a couple of hours of FM rock without hearing one. Frampton came from Humble Pie, which also had some great songs out there. As enormous as this record was, he remains pretty underrated.

This guy started on the road with Humble Pie when he was just 16. They were an absolutely nasty rock/blues band from the early 70's. Listen to "Thirty Days in the Hole" for an example. Would love to see them do a deep dive into the history of that guitar. From the fan giving it to him in San Francisco, to thinking he lost it in when the plane it was on crashed on the runway in South America, to it being stolen out of the wreckage and being used in S.A., to its eventual return several decades later and the Gibson shop in Nashville helping to restore it back to its glory. He named it the Phenix because of its resurrection from the fire. You can't make this stuff up, what a wild story.

Frampton has a long storied career in Rock music in groups like the Herd, Humble Pie and of course solo. After the John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers album that Eric Clapton is holding the Beano comic book, everyone wanted to be a powerchord blues player like Clapton. Frampton thought about this and decided to be different and lean more to the jazz side of instrument. A great choice for him and his style as he stood out a little differently during the onslaught of British Invasion bands. He was also a featured musician on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album which you guys have really liked. During those sessions he met steel guitar player Pete Drake where he was introduced to the talk box and immediately knew he wanted to get one and learn how to incorporate it into his music. Lucky chance meeting but it changed rock history for sure.

A lot of people don't realize that he plays from a different center than a lot of great rock guitarists. He grew up idolizing not the blues greats, but the jazz greats, Django Reinhardt in particular. You can hear the difference in the way he forms his guitar solos. I always prefer him live, and my favorite song of his is Lines on My Face. It's a slow number with beautiful guitar solos. His most popular songs were Show me the Way and Baby I Love Your Way.

One of the most iconic songs ever made. I don’t get much better than this live version. We don’t care about his shirt this man is a beast on the guitar and a true American rock God!

American? Peter Frampton is British. OK, so he’s got American citizenship, but he was born and bred in England.

Trivia David (Jones) Bowie was graduating finishing school where he studied graphic design. He asked his professor about pursuing a music career or graphic design..He told him to follow his dream...The professors name was Prof. Frampton ,Peter Framptons father.

The version to go with if you want another listen is from the Frampton Comes Alive album. It’s another live version but just audio and is IMHO the best version of this song. Cheers! 👍

My Mom had the Frampton Comes Alive album when I was growing up; this song will never ever get old, and yes, she still likes Frampton. This is one of my go-to songs, especially on a long car ride ❤ If you listen to this song on the Frampton Comes Alive album, it is a much much better version and you will hear everything 😊

Frampton was the first one to really make the talk box super famous...it blew people's minds. It can't be understated how big his Frampton Comes Alive album was..it was THE album that anyone who liked rock in any way had. I was a pre-teen and we'd play that album over and over. He only recently retired due to a physical issue that doesn't allow him to play guitar anymore.

Frampton Comes Alive is the version you guys need to listen to. It's a must in every collection !!! When it came out in 1976 it was fire !!! Peter Frampton does not get the credit for his phenomenal Guitar playing.

Yes! Yes! Yes! This was an awesome performance, despite the muddy sound at the beginning. It was great to see the shock on your faces when Peter started using the Talk Box. When this song came out, nobody had ever heard a Talk Box before. I think Peter was to first to use one. I'm so glad you got to see on camera how skilled he was using it. Those things are not easy to operate. And his charismatic performance was Rock Star gold! Great reaction guys!

Joe Walsh used the Talk-box on "Rocky Mountain Way" (James Gang) and Aerosmith used it on "Sweet Emotion" prior to this but when the "Frampton Comes Alive" album came out, people were in awe of the way Frampton used the effect. Most of my friends went out and bought the album.

Saw Peter twice, post 2000. Once opening for Journey (with Arnel). John Waite took the stage before Peter. Frankly, we enjoyed Peter's performance so much, we bailed on Journey. Saw him again a few years back at the Cerritos Performing Arts Theatre. Just an awesome performer, showman, and talented guitarist. One of best shows ever.

You were wondering if there was another Frampton live performance using the talk-box. There is a performance on KZfaq from 1991, when he performed Can't Take That Away. By this time, 15 years after the Midnight Special appearance, his hair was much shorter and he was wearing a wife-beater T-shirt. It's a 10-minute, plus blues number and he was amazing! He was still at the top of his ability. You would like it, for sure!!
