Columnist Peter Hitchens says he suspects the Tories “are longing to get out of Parliament”.
This comes as Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer are set to go head-to-head in the first televised leaders’ debate of the General Election campaign next week.
ITV confirmed the Prime Minister and the Labour leader will take part in the show at 9pm on Tuesday June 4.
Peter says: “If you want to punish the Tories, keep them in office and make them clear up the mess they’ve made.”

Don't forget that way before Brexit, he was calling out the EU as German expansionism - and yet when the Brexit vote was called - he wouldn't take part. There's also how misread the C situation, and just caved in and took the "cure", and said : "we just have to accept these types of restrictions from now on"(ironic given how he knew what happened under the Soviet Union). He also underestimated Putin(he did invade) - but I will give him some credit for calling out the MSM's narrative on that.

Er!! The situation in the UK is not confined to UK alone but a widening problem in Europe as a whole!! European policy makers actually outsmarted themselves, and its totally irrevalent which political psrty comes to power in the UK , for despite the hype, rhetoric, of the present Labour Party, Europe cannot ever jalt the trajectory on which they are locked in, prisoners of the dictats of Washington. Washington set out on a two- pronged policy with regard to Europe, curb, if not destroy the economic position of Germany in Europe, bring Russia to heel and capture its resources!! First, a senile, incompetent in the White House tells the Europeans that since Putin has the temerity to want to protect its borders Europe - including the UK, given that its electorate voted to leave that " club" - should embark on imposing sanctions across tge board on Russia!! Would any sane person believe how mind blowingly stupid was the decision for the UK to go along with this insane idea!! No matter how it is spun today, Europe, including the UK were enjoying relatively cheap, if not totally cheap energy by trading with Russia, Germany was booming economically, and all the European States benefitted to some degree from that economic boom!! Today Germany and all Europe is economically bankrupt, despite all the + mendacious) statements coming from the various Governments!! Then, then to compound the insanity the UK Government embarked on " supporting" a war with Russia " donating" in excess of £ 15 billion - and counting- to Ukraine against the worlds second largest nuclear armed superpower??, with bogus fearmongering that the Russians sre going to " march down Downing Street" or dome such nonsensical statements from perhaps the worlds most puny nonentity of s politician Schapps!! The Labour Party can declare tvis, that or the other about coming to power, and yes, perhaps the Tories do see the writing on the wall, however, their departure to tge Labour Party for some is merely cynicism in seeking to keep their job, and absolutly nothing to do with seeking to rescue Britain, or should I say, UK - given that the devolved entities are doomed for all time ie Wales today politically!!! If the Labour Party could have the cojones to pull the itself away from the rest of Europe busily talking themselves into being incinerated over a lost cause of Ukraine, then, maybe the UK might find a place in the eorld by working with orher nations, specifically in whats termed today the " global South " then, this country can rebuild itself, economically, politically, morally, into a great country, as its patently obvious or it ought to be clear that the future of the UK does not lie in its attachment to Washington for believe it or not the Democrats realising they have lost power and redpect across the globe are prepared to take down all with them if needs be!! Oh!! And by the way that remains a fact whether Trump comes to power or not!!!!

I think that this is true, the Tories wish to get out and leave the mess to Labour, which will destroy them, leaving the Tories to ride in in five years time to rescue us. Once Parliament is no longer sovereign then we will be totally governed by Civil Service loonies and it will take a revolution to change things.

Peter didn't bother voting in the referendum, and thought the Norway(EC) option was acceptable - so to him that doesn't matter.
