My daughter and I have different taste in music, but when she was in college we discovered we both loved Peter Paul Mary, and went to their concert together in the late 90s. We found ourselves singing at the top of our lungs to their music on the way home! Such fond memories! 😊

I'm 31. My parents were children in the 1960s. I grew up listening to Peter, Paul, and Mary, so their music resonates and sweeps me back to the most beautiful, early childhood memories and the radiant connection I have with my loving parents. When I was 18 transitioning into adulthood and learning how I love to sing and write music, I was also going througha hard time; I listened to their music. So as God brought me back into light, I sang to their harmonies. Now their music makes me think of not one but two essential times of my life. I remember trying tk decide whose voice was best out of three and couldn't do it. All to perfect. On top of all this, young Paul looks just a little bit like my father did as a young man. So watching them singing is a little like having my father immortalized as a young man. I freakin love Peter, Paul, and Mary. They are the definition of harmony. And forever they will continue to inspire me as a person and a singer.

As a Canadian I learned many of these songs via Gordon Lightfoot albums my Mom had when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. What a scene that was back then. Loved folk music until the mid-80s when Stan Rogers passed away and others seem to fade. Thank god for Dylan and Leonard Cohen who kept the flame alive for several decades longer.

They appeared in Albuquerque NM while I was in school there in 1965. Best concert I've ever attended in my life. They exalted us and brought tears to our eyes, and all the fellows were madly in love with Mary. Peter first came onstage, stepped up to the mike & said, "My name is Peter; I'm not an apostle." Then Paul came out & said, "My name is Paul, I'm also not an apostle." Finally Mary came out; she said "My name is Mary," while she looked daggers at Peter & Paul! Unforgettable night, unforgettable music, unforgettable warmth and joy! Alas, a different world then, and a better.

Beautifull, heartwarming vocal harmonies. Born in the 1950s in the Netherlands I allways had been drawn to music which sounded different from main-stream popular music I heard on the radio, I dicovered artists like PP&M. It opened-up a whole new world for me and the journey has not ended. I still dicover new music every day.

When they first arrived on the scene everyone that even knew what a guitar was formed a trio and sang to anyone that would listen. No one could match them. A singular combination of voices and style. And like everyone is saying, no auto tune, no multiple tracks laid down, just singing. It was a good time to be living.

So true! I was very surprised when in about 1980 they came to Minneapolis and sang at a restaurant as I thought they filled concert halls. I didn't plan ahead and can't remember how soon I found out... I think it was after the fact, as usual for me ha! As a kid I my sister and husband got a very nice floor console type of stereo, a Webcor, as a wedding gift when they married in 1961. They liked PPM and I remember The Sand Pipers album. I like the Folk Music era. I like others too like The Mamas and the Papas, Christy Minstrels. I like how PPM has such control and like the song, "Lovin' Me" (don't know the name) how they go from soft and increase their volume then back off. I gues RCA or a major label actually put them together. I guess they didn't form the group themselves.

I loved the group for so many years when I was young. And when I went to sea on a submarine just a couple years later, and then subsequently sent to shore duty, one of the first thing I did was to buy a record player, and a Peter, Paul and Mary album. I had missed them so much. Each of them were an incredible artist by themselves, but the synergy of all 3 could not be overlooked. Seeing them again, so many decades after that time brought back some favorite old memories. Thank you for sharing.

Quite simply the greatest live performanc ever and I was lucky enought to witness these wonderful people all those years ago. They changed every aspect of my life and the truth of their presence has carried me on to these dreadful days. You can see the young audience trying to understant the life of the songs and perhaps become advocates of truth..... what the hell went wrong?!? My ageing heart is broken now and I feel so lonely as I live out my last days. Bless the three of them for the gifts they gave.

@baxtercol Жыл бұрын
Mr. Collinjohnrudd, You're breaking my heart. I think I'm just a bit younger than you because I don't really remember Peter, Paul and Mary first hand but I remember nostalgicly hearing them throughout my childhood. Their cousins too: Joan Baez, Simon & Garfunkel, Judy Collins... none are forgotten. You need only listen to the many versions of Sound of Silence to know that what I say is true. My nephews who are in their 30s are aware and appreciative of this wonderful tradition. It lives on in Irish music and in some country music, especially that which has political, patriotic and faithful overtones. Many of us stand with you and all is not lost. Ronald Reagan and his emulators have said The Best Is Yet To Come. Change is hard won and often painful but what is great about the United States will survive. People like me have you to thank. Look upward and outward and keep the spirit of hope that is so evident in those songs alive. You Are Not Alone. I think perhaps I know another song that might cheer you. It goes like this: When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roar, whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul. May the good Lord bless and keep you. May He lift His countenance upon you and give you peace... there is one other song that might help: One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus, that's all I'm asking of you. Just give me the strength to do everyday what I have to do. Yesterday's gone, sweet Jesus and tomorrow may never be mine. Lord help me today. Show me the way, one day at a time. My prayers are with you and anyone who may read these words. Instead of trolling or Doomsday-ing, let's pray for each other, our beleaguered elderly president, our country and our troubled world.

The more I thought about your comment, the more it makes sense. I thought my mom loved PPM, but when I shared this, she wasn't that excited. As I moved on to more PPM videos, I realized why my Mom gave up on this group: they became liberal extremists. They were activist musicians. They're AMAZINGLY TALENTED, but their message became more and more militant and "woke". No matter how great the talent, if it lacks underlying integrity and Truth, it won't survive. God is in control, not arrogant activists. I trust God, not the statistics and coercion of leftist extremists.

Mary Travers is one of those very few singers, male or female, whose voice rings like a bell. I can think of only a few others - Judith Durham, Jon Anderson, Geddy Lee come easily to mind. It's a rare quality, and when you hear it you'll never forget it.

Absolutely. From what I've read, Mary never thought she was much of a singer in these early days, and Peter and Paul brought her in for some "sex appeal". How wrong she was. While they all sound perfect, she's the one that stands out.

Three so very talented singers singing as if they were united into one voice. Such mellow and precise delivery of word and lyrics. The duel guitars mastered the rhythms of melody and played the tune in total harmony with their voices. What a beautiful gift that they gave to the audience. It is a masterpiece of music making at its subtle finest. My heart is so happy to have been there, with them, and now to hear them again in view and recording, to applaud, and let a tiny tear fall for them and what they gave to us..fBk

The music if the 60’s had a message that is timeless. Let’s hope and pray that the seeds of discontent that were planted on those songs will bring to fruition all the peace we cried out for in those songs. We are here again to see if that cry can be answered by this generation - we were the seed planters but the sowing was real and so will the reaping - that the natural law of love and life❤️

So great to relive hearing and seeing this group. In 1962 or 1963, my fraternity brother, Fred Donner, ran around the fraternity house telling us all that we had to go to the Diag and hear this group that was performing for free. Those of us who did were rewarded in a way that none of us will ever forget. As to singers whose voice rings like a bell, the best has always been Linda Ronstadt.

Such incredible performers! Flawless and polished, but with unmistakable stage presence, and a perfectly balanced harmonic blend. Three of their songs, "If I Had A Hammer," "Puff, the Magic Dragon", and "Blowin' In the Wind," were among my earliest memories as I became musically aware, and evoke such strong, pleasant memories of my youth. How unfortunate it is that the political theory which animated much of that era's music, whatever good has come from it, has matured into the dark and insane plague we suffer today.

Early Morning Rain is my all time favorite PP&M song because I had always dreamed of becoming an airline pilot and flying the Boeing 707. My dream came true, but too late to fly the 707 as by then the airlines had bought more fuel efficient airplanes. I ended my career in 2015 flying the Boeing 767, but thanks to this song, the 707 still holds a special place in my heart. I grew up in St.Louis near the airport and as a boy, those 707s were always flying over my home stoking the flames of my passion for flying.

I love that the guitarists have a list of songs on the top of the guitar. I did the same thing at that time. They worked very hard to create a very integrated melody. Also their guitar playing is a mixture of nylon and steel. Rare then and now. Also the bass player has added and excellent depth to the sound. They were very much original at the time an worked hard to not follow and other groups but to have a unique sound that is just their sound.
