Thanks! This was my FAVORITE episode of Vocal Arts with Peter Barber! Johnathan Young provided so many valuable tips and lessons for beginner content creators! These were words they absolutely needed to hear! I was so ecstatic to hear Johnathan Young mention my name! I was not expecting that at all! And now it's on the Internet forever! LOL Another fantastic interview, as always! I look forward to seeing the next one!

The variety of genres he's covered is quite astounding! You mentioned Caleb Hyles, it would be interesting to hear you interview him as well.

This interview shows how important it us for an artist to know the production side of creating music projects, it's much how smart artists understand the audio engineering side for live performances, so vocals, soecific instruments, etc, don't get lost due to drums and or guitar being aranged too loudly and or the mics and other instruments being set too low. Of course; this requires not letting your ego blind you to your weaknesses, so you can improve on thise areas.

When Johnathan soeaks about hiw complex does a production have to be; it remended me of someone I knew who fancied themselves a writer, who convinced themselves they needed a computer, a expensive tablet, when pen and paper surfice, not to mention a phone, cheap tablet, a cheap chromebook or windows laptop being sufficient. Sometimes it's easy to make things more complicated than they need to be; there are still folks building social media channels with nothing more tham a cellphone, and for some a stand for their phone to hold the camera while they are soeaking to the camera.

Dan's so awesome. He's been at it on YT for about 10-13 years yet he never hit my wall until this spring. Needless to say, I'm still so addicted to his music that I can't climb out of the rabbit hole. Jonathan still hasn't hit my wall either, except through other channels that bring him up, which is how I've been discovering lots of artists lately. I really respect these 50 dollar garage studio artists!!

1:08:17 jonathan is 100% a baritone. he would probably be a heldenbaritone because his tessitura is on the lower end of the bari spectrum but his passagi seem to sit at Bb3 and Eb4. he refers to himself as a bass-baritone in the segment though which is fair enough he's not too far from that area
@PeterBarber
@PeterBarber 7 ай бұрын
Jonathan is definitely not a baritone (both according to himself, and according to me, as heard in this interview). He only calls himself a bass-baritone because he's a natural bass that has extended his upper range. He has also never trained as an opera singer, so it makes no sense to give him a specific operatic fach like heldenbaritone.
@heliotropeskies5918
@heliotropeskies5918 7 ай бұрын
@@PeterBarber hence why i didn't directly call him a heldenbaritone. i was postulating what he could be moreso. i agree in the very least it doesn't matter, but also outside of voice teachers (not coaches, teachers) the opinions of other singers and the singers themselves are largely inconsequential. thomas sanders calls himself a bass-baritone when he clearly is bordering on being a tenor. you yourself call marwan ayman a high bass when his passagi clearly sit higher than even baritone passagi typically do. though given im not a voice teacher ive essentially already given you license to disregard everything ive just said if u so choose, which i imagine ur going to do. ill put it this way: in my mind avi kaplan is about as high as a bass can be while maintaining the classification of "true bass" and jonathan clearly has a higher voice in every sense than avi does, but if u disagree with me i don't care it makes no difference

A good example of what Jonathan is saying about unlolished content; is Ren's latest video in responce to another rapper dissing him, as the video has no music, transitions or other editing, it is simply a one take video of Ren rapping.

I bet this must feel like one of the most rewarding interviews on your channel... The vocal production and distortion part was really exciting, especially for some of us who are (at least in part) classically trained. I have found what seems to me an excellent video on the production of vocal distortion, in different degrees and with various nuances (!), without creating the usual damage to the vocal folds. Just a little taste, but it truly feels meaningful and exciting to further explore: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j62DocV518elpIU.html.
