Seriously, I dig this truck! I don't get why everyone seems to complain about it. Peterbilt made a very good mix of the old and new school with the 589 IMO. They realised that making a new generation of their soul would imply to keep almost the same appearance its predecessor had. I'd compare it to making a new generation of the Jeep Wrangler. I like the fact that they kept the flat top option, the retro looking mirrors, the air cleaners and the whole front end of the 389. If only Kenworth did the same thing when they made the W990...🤔 Well done Peterbilt! 👍

it looks like a 389 had a 3 way with a 388 and a 579. what development teams don’t understand is just how far “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” really goes

Kind of weird that it took the team so long to graft a 389 hood to a 579, install some Navistar skinny air cleaners and then carve the finest wood from the best plastic trees to dress up the same dash as the 579. I mean the least peterbilt could've done was redesign the dash as a throwback to the previous oval dash with room for a real gauge cluster on the b panel. Even Kenworth offers more physical gauges.

Looks great I drive a 379 and could definitely see myself in one someday. So many babies in the comments be grateful peterbilt still has a long hood truck

I fing it funny that it was supposedly a full resign... Yet when I look at it, it's just a 389 and 579 morphed into one. I mean even the name. It took the 5 from 579 and the 89 from 389 to make 589. But what it the deal with the full windshield!?!?. Long nose Pete's are supposed to have split windows! The 359 was amazing. 379 beautiful overhaul. 389 great modern overhaul. Am I saying the 589 don't look good? No I looks pretty decent. But it ain't the successor to the 389

I personally love it, the 990 had to grow on me, I love this put of the gate. They could've easily said the 567 would replace the 389, all the people that hate this are probably the ones that hated the 389 when it took the place of the 379, and didn't like the 379 when it replaced the 359. I think it's a home run

Here I am wanting to chop my 379 ultra cab roof/windshield and windows down.. while the 589 goes even taller and bigger on everything. Nice looking truck all in all. Never thought I’d see the rectangle grille come back either 👍

Glad to hear the air breathers will still be offered in 15 inch. Love the Legendary look and especially the original Peterbilt signature.

I don't know the bigger cab has some appeal but the classic cab is part of the appeal. I guess I'm not a big fan of a lot of the "progress" the seventies when I started were way more fun. Only a one piece windshield? That's a problem or possibly a bunch of problems. You could always change one side easily, quickly and fairly cheaply, that one piece curved windshield will come with a big price tag I bet. Don't know about this but some of these big one piece windshields need a day for the sealant to cure after replacement.

I don't think it looks as good as a 389, but we have a 548 with the new cab, and I understand the bean counters were never going to let there be a 389 cab for just one limited production truck. I'm happy to have the 589 as opposed to no long hood at all. It's going to be the most comfortable truck Peterbilt has ever made, and have lots of room even in a daycab. And don't you enjoy a truck more from the driver's seat anyway?

they need to extend the day cab by 6-8" so people riding shotgun can tilt there seats farther back.

So it's basically just 389 with 567 cab. And 389 sleeper.

It appears to me that Peterbilt is very much like Bud Light. They don't understand their true demographic buying the hoods. This boils down to one thing. Streamline the plant with the same ugly wide cab so they don't have to slow the plant down. This is not for the driver.

By far the worst part about this, a deal breaker for me, is the placement of the air brake knobs in the cab. How are you going to hold in the trailer air while only pulling out the parking brake? And why are they placed closer to the passenger than the driver??
