Hey Pete, always love your videos. As a golfer for 10+ years, whenever I speak to friends and try to convince them into golf, they look at the price range and cannot comprehend spending 700-1000 for a set of clubs. Would he great if you (maybe in collaboration with golfbidder) would put together a series for golf set for 100,200,300 etc. Thanks for your content!

Love the idea of playing with a half set, 7, 8 or 9 clubs total. Makes the game more interesting, have to think about shots even more than usual, and highlights course management since you have to plan every shot. Great video and club choices.

Lets make a less expensive option. Wedge- Kirkland wedges 52-56-60 $159 Balls- Kirkland 24 pack $25 Putter-Kirkland $150 Irons- Takomo 101’s $459 Hybrid- PXG 0211 $174 Fairway wood- PXG 0211 $174 Driver- PXG 0211 $190 These would cost half of what was shown on here and perform better for a high handicapped golfer.

I just played some of the worst golf of my life yesterday, but fortunately it was a scramble. This set would have made my life a lot easier, or at least less miserable I think. I would love to get some lessons while using a set like this and grow with it. Given I've only been playing about a 1.5 years, I think this would be a great asset to my future golf experience. All the best, Peter. I sincerely wish nothing but success and happiness for you in your future golfing and personal endeavors.

Hi Pete. I’m a 23 handicapper and play maybe once a month. Would love to play more but life as always gets in the way. I’ve built my bag from scratch in the mindset that I won’t need to upgrade again. Just need practice/lessons to improve. A 2 iron for a 23 handicaper is bold. For that club to work as it's suppose to you really got to have a quite high swingspeed.

@@nicklasfrank7987 how does handicap have any correlation to swingspeed?
@nicklasfrank7987
@nicklasfrank7987 Жыл бұрын
@@jadenngl nothing really. But handicap tells you some thing about the skill level. IF you want to lower that handicap. I think you should develop other things in the game than smashing a 2 iron perfectly. I personally have just seen 2 maybe 3 persons in real life hitting a 2-3 iron so they don't lose strokes. They were 2+. But I don't say that high handicapers can't use them. I can't see how they would benefit from it.
@num2166

@@nicklasfrank7987 ten years ago I had all the swing speed I could ask for, the driving range I go to is 340 yards long and I could hit half my drives off the end of it even now speed and distance aren't really my issue, direction and consistency are, carried a 2 iron then, and could pipe it about half the time with the other half being either fat or grossly offline

I'm playing for 8 years now but only on public courses since i dont have a official handicap... Due to social anxiety, taking lessons with a group of ppl i dont know is a big step i havn't been able to take. But that doesn't take away my love for the game and i play as much as time/work/family allows me ;) Mostly my set still contains the clubs i started out with 8 years ago (a 10 piece Spalding starter set i picked up for 280 euro's) Due to not having a big budget i buy a club or 2 a year to upgrade my set. After getting 4 clubs to get to 14 in total and getting a new putter and 3 wood, the starter set wedges and irons are next to be replaced in the next few years. Looking foreward to the video of you playing against Jacob with hickory clubs... thats gonna be fun to watch! :D

I’ve got you. I just started playing 3-4 weeks ago. I bought Callaway cavity back Razr irons 4-PW for $375. 3 Titleist Sm6 wedges for $50 each. Titleist TS2 driver for $220 Titleist TS2 19 degree hybrid for $110 Odyssey white hot putter for $60 Total: Little under a grand. Wilson ultra 500 are $17.99 for 15 balls on Amazon. I’ve played 5 times so far, having fun and don’t feel like I spent a crazy amount of money. Shot an honest 96 today in the rain and after everyone else left because of the rain, I picked up 26 balls without having to look hard at all haha. Free two dozen balls literally paid for my round… Highly recommend the irons and titleist ts2 stuff. Very forgiving and easy to hit far/well. Have fun out there.

I have to say since my son broke my driver it has helped me to be smarter of the tee with my 3 wood or an iron and has helped me to not be in as much trouble on certain holes and obvs the most important thing keep the same ball in play for 18! Totally agree with the hybrids so many players shy away from them but they are great.

I like the idea of limiting the number of irons like that. The new/casual golfer probably needs to prioritize clean/consistent contact over "to-the-yard" club selection, and even as they improve, knowing how to make an 8 iron go 150 as well as 120 is a very valuable skill.

I'm a high handicap golfer. Been playing forever, but never really got serious about the game until the past year. I carry a bag that would be at home in an antique shop, but absolutely love just about every club in it. Ping G2 Black Dot irons and wedges, Ram Zebra putter, and original Tight Lies fairway woods. The one concession to the 21st century is a brand new Ping G425 Max driver, to replace my original Big Bertha. With regular league play and lots of range time, my game has improved significantly, and my impression is that it will be a very long time before these clubs hold me back. Total spend (irons/wedges are good used) is well under $1000. Favorite ball, at the moment, is the Supersoft. Rick's testing hasn't shown me any reason to spend twice as much for the Chromesoft or Pro V1.

I 100% agreed with the driver you chose, as a 18-20 handicapper I've recently upgraded my driver from an old taylormade R5 to the callaway Max LS, super forgiving out of the toe and heel. I didn't plenty of research into what would potentially suit my game (natural fade/slicer) and will also be adaptable for the next 10 years as I hopefully improve. I then went and did a driver fitting to see what they recommended and made sure I had the correct shaft my my swing. Next on the list is my woods and then either irons or wedges.

I think you really should have a look at the courses here in Poland as some of them are amazing like the 'First Warsaw Golf', 'Krakow valley golf country club' and 'Sobienie Royal Golf & Country Club Sobienie-Jeziory', which are amazing courses. Poland, golf, there's a new thought. 😁😆

I came across a very good deal on some new unused Mack Daddy 4 wedges last year, and wow I have to say probably the biggest club improvement to my scores I've ever made in my bag. If there's anywhere in the bag I will never skimp on again, its definitely the wedge slot.

A really fun video Peter... I'm 62 now and have just returned to golf after an 18-year hiatus! I was once a 6 handicap (in the old USGA handicapping system) but now struggle greatly with my old Titleist DCI 962's (with stiff shafts), stiff shafted Callaway Big Bertha Warbird 3 and 5 woods and (old!) stiff, steel-shafted Cobra King Cobra 9˚ driver! I think the stiff shafts are too hard for me now. I've recently hit with a borrowed set regular flex, graphite shafted irons and hybrids really well. I'm also trying to find my old swing and morph it into a new swing since I've lost a lot of swing speed. It'll come back with due diligence. I can't believe I stopped playing in the first place since I've rediscovered how much I love golf! I love the videos you, Fryer, Carter and Shiels make too. Lately, I've enjoyed your instructional/playing videos most though...

As much as I like your videos Pete, I added up how much the set of clubs you recommend cost, it came up to £2074.00. Non of that £2074 will make a high handicap golfer any better than the same high handicap golfer, using a £500 package set. Someone in your position really shouldn't be encouraging new, inexperienced or casual golfers to spend that kind of ridiculous money.

When I retired (currently 63 years old) I figured it was time to revisit golf (after 42 years absence). I picked up a garage sale set of Northwestern Championship Custom irons (TrueTemper steel shafts) and TaylorMade Burner driver and woods. Was doing fair (I thought) for being such a duffer. So I found my measurements and watched the Callaway used website and picked up a set of Rogue X 6i-SW (seven clubs) and had them add new grips. I also ebaYed a Rogue X 3H and 5H and a Big Bertha Fusion FT-3 driver and a Big Bertha LW. All the clubs have a "senior" flex graphite shaft except the driver - a graphite regular stiffness. WOW! Distance added for sure! The first time I went out I was going 20 yards past the green with the 8 and 9 irons on our local "pitch-and-put" executive course. These clubs added 20% more distance to my old clubs of equivalent number. I hit a golfer at a tee who was 35 yards beyond the green on a 5-par dogleg where I was normally able to place a 6i shot on the face of the green for the second shot! Ooops.

Cracking little video - and I agree with many of the comments here too. As a former high handicapper, there are lots of "little" things that I wish I knew, the main one being 'don't buy new'. so while I think these choices of club are really useful, I wouldn't recommend a HH buy new, instead look at similar clubs from 3/4 years ago (much like your Golfbidder videos). That said, as the perfect set for a HH - you can't go far wrong with those Pete! FWIW (11.5 Dr, 16.5 3W, 19h, 22h, 26h, 6/7/8/9/P, 50/56/60 | 19h>P are GI)

I did invest in a set of new irons a few years ago - TaylorMade Rocket Bladez that I replaced my old Wilson Fatshafts with around 2014. My main issue is fitness (bit lardy these days), and trying not to get frustrated at the lack of consistency which is silly as I cannot expect to be playing so rarely (although i was a lot better many years ago). Balls I tend to use the £20ish a dozen ones I am on AD333's at present.

Like I don’t even mean like a full set of Taylor made or anything. I bought a full set of Tour Edge clubs. And the difference is unreal. Just keep having fun my dude.

Probably the best cheap irons you can get are the Wilson D Series. This was each of my kids starter irons because they are still really good from beginner to intermediate player until you're advanced enough you're looking into blades/players irons. Vokey is the right way to go for wedges but the SM6-7-8 editions are just as good as the 9 and you can buy them for a fraction of the price.

Have been building the bag from day one (7 years ago) have a mixer of new and second hand. Gone from 36+ to a consistent 15 handicap. Bag consists of: Taylor made M2 Driver Cobra king f9 5w Nike vapour 3h G410 4h Ping G25 irons 5-pw Kirkland wedges 52, 56 and 60 Cleveland Huntingdon beach putter Could definitely do with an upgrade to keep the momentum going as looking to start entering comps. Keep up the quality work Pete and team

Been playing for almost 2 yrs and finally getting to the 100 mark. I've been working the bag for about a year now. Started with a Dick's Sports starter set but now playing a Cobra Radspeed XB driver, Cobra speedzone 5 wood and a radspeed 7 wood. Also have a 3 wood but not in the bag currently. Irons are the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo 6 through D wedge. I benched the 5 iron in favor of the 7 wood. I have a Cleveland chipper and Costco 56 and 60 wedge as well as the Costco putter. I find all my clubs easy to hit and all go different distances and work for different shots. I am 60yrs old so I'm not concerned withax distance but controlled distances. I just haven't found hybrids easy but hybrid irons very very easy.

Went with Mavrik 22 10.5 Driver, Heavenwood, 6-9,PW,AW,SW and jailbird. I hate hybrids and 3 woods. I hit the 4&5 the same distance as a 6 iron so saved some money and bought a badass putter. Also a Jones bag for looks and ease of use.

I agree about the half set concept. I travelled in Outback Oz this year and did not want to take my good clubs, in case they were damaged. I took a Cleveland Hibore Driver, a Wilson Fywood 19 hybrid, a Cobra F7 22-25 degree Hybrid, a six iron ( Milford Golf SL-7), a Tour Edge PW and a Tour Edge 56 ( both hybrid-iron design) and an WIlson arm lock putter. I tried to make a set with around 5-10 degree loft gaps ( 10, 19, 25, 29, 45 56) All purchased second hand from Facebook marketplace.

My current set - Rogue ST Max driver, 10.5degree, 40 gram regular flex, Ping 425 3 wood, Taylormade SIMM2 3 hybrid. Irons - Mizuno 921 Hotmetal combo set. 5&6 are hybrids, 7, 8, 9, P, G and S wedge. Putter is a Ping Crazy. I’m a 19 handicap. Just got the driver and really love it. Irons are amazing also. Picked driver, irons and hybrid up used and saved a boatload.

I like the idea. Can't wait to see the video. My only issue is that you are recommending around a 1700-2k bag (with a half set of iron) to a high handicapper who plays a couple of times a month.

Difficult to play sometimes as a single parent, so lack of practice and game time but did check out, then get some Inesis 500s after watching one of your vids, they’re great cheaper clubs, the whole bag is probably around £660. Current bag: D, 3W, 5H, 6I, 7I, 8I, 9I, PW (44) & SW (54): Callaway Edge, 3H, GW (50) & LW (60): Inesis 500, Putter: Odyssey White Hot Pro 1, Balls: Vice Tour. Lack of consistency probably the biggest issue, was putting but changed grip style which helped. Like the content, keep it coming.

Good video, prob need to find a cheaper option. I’ve been playing 30 years and only just now can justify spending serious money over the past few years. Still off the 15 handicap but getting better each year. 10.5 Stealth Driver, old trusty ping g5 3 wood, calllaway X 4 hybrid, P770 irons, 54,56,60 degree Taylormade MG wedges and My Dad’s old Scotty Red X putter. Can’t see me changing anything now for some years. But played 10 years with no name cavity backs and random woods but still enjoyed every game. Thanks for still putting out great videos for our entertainment 👍🏻👍🏻

You don't need great clubs, you need time....practice makes perfect. My total set is less then £500 ( no driver ) but has 4 gap wedges ( Caley ). I've committed to 4 hrs a week minimum short game practice and it's paid dividends this year. The biggest thing in golf is the power of aggregation...practicing little and often with all your sessions adding up to real gains. Great video as always Pete :) thanks

I have only been playing for about 6 month and don't have a lot of knowledge about clubs so love love these videos. I currently am playing a hand me down set of 35 - 40 year old Wilson irons and no hybrids or woods and a 15 - 20 year old Jack Nicklaus q-4 driver and a no name putter. Not sure if new clubs would help my average score of 105 - 110 but I'm sure they couldn't hurt so thanks for the club selections.

Working in golf retail and seeing what customers like/don’t like and what works and doesn’t work…I couldn’t agree more. For brand new currently model, g425 max driver, stealth 3 hybrid or 5 wood, g425 5-G (or 5, 7, 9, G) just to match loft progression better, and sm9 vokeys (54* 60*). The 2017 line of each of these manufactures are still amazing and fairly inexpensive. Unless your on a budget, stear away from ANYTHING older than 2009. And look at preowned aswell. As long as it’s cosmetic wear and no damage you are hitting the same club lol.

Makes perfect sense to me. Money spent on most used clubs. Even the reduced use of irons to four is good advice. The second hand stores will save you a fortune and save you cash on less used irons...

Hey Pete great video! I’m a new golfer without an official handicap but it would be in the 30s. My bag is an interesting one, as all of my clubs were bought second hand. Driver: Cobra F9 Fairway: Titleist 915F 3 wood Hybrid: Titleist 913H 5 hybrid Irons: 4-PW Nike VR Split Cavity Forged (definitely what I need to swap soonest, designed for a lower handicapper) Wedges: 52* Vokey Oil Can, 56&60* Taylormade R Series Tour Grind EF Spin Putter: TaylorMade Spyder Arc Bag: WinCraft Bucket III Ball: Vice Drive (or whatever I find looking for my tee shot)

I'm getting the hang of my hybrid currently having only put in the bag a couple.of months ago. It's so much easier to hit off the fairway than my 3wd and gives me a decent gapping between 3wd and 5i. Taken 10 shots off my handicap in 2 years (based on my local clubs white tees anyway, 30 down to 20 currently). Putter probably the next change in the bag. Then most likely a new set of irons. Targeting a course handicap at my club of 15 before I invest in new irons though. Currently playing Cobra Speedzone 10.5⁰ (delofted to 9⁰), Taylormade M6 3wd, Ping G425 hybrid 18⁰. Ping G400 irons 5-SW (including gap wedge), Cleveland CBX2 lob wedge 58⁰, Oyssey DXF 2 Ball Blade putter.
