ya I had elk meat once , ya it was ok , it was a elk burger but I like beef a lot better , beef tastes better , I think beef has a better taste , in terms of taste nothing is better than beef , elk and moose and deer are too lean , beef tastes better and beef does not have a gamy taste , I've never had moose meat , but I've had elk and deer and beef tastes better I think , so anyways bear tastes like shit in case your wondering , bear meat is terrible , why people hunt bears I couldn't tell you , bear meat should be made illegal

I moved to Alaska over 5 years ago. If you haven't been in Alaska for the winter, you DON'T know Alaska. I couldn't believe when they said they leave every winter. Gotta experience that -30 below 0 weather to be a true Alaskan.

We were here for alot of the below zero temperatures last year. we leave so I can take care of my In-laws, and so my son can have some memories with them. They're are not mobile and need assistance. They cannot fly here to visit due to their age. when I go back I'm mainly cooking, cleaning and helping them get up and down, running errands. I had to build them a mother-in-laws suite in their house for the caretakers. Moving 6,000 miles away takes time & money. We're leaving the country to afford the medical treatments to have another child. The "True alaskan" talk is hilarious to me bc I take ice baths for pleasure.

We left the city and spent 12 years off-grid in the rainforest. This is all very familiar. Interesting neighbors (from scientists to tweakers), fresh food (our kids used to eat directly from our plants; not even picking with their hands), no decent grocery store for miles, free thinkers who can agree to disagree, thriftin' at the dump, weird crime (someone down the road from us had their HOUSE stolen); all of it. 😂 We're in a town now, for various reasons, but I definitely miss a lot about this way of life, and we still talk about eventually going back to off-grid living.

You only live once and it’s a short experience at that. You are born alone and you will die alone. If you want something in life it needs to be done for and by yourself. You family will be there with you in the afterlife, and luckily I’m this modern day and age you can video call and fly in a metal tube at 500 mph so you aren’t ever truly alone or without family. Imagine our hunter gatherer ancestors who traveled the planet in foot and probably lost contact with friends and family never to see or hear them again.

Peter, spending a large chunk of my adult life in East New York, Brooklyn blocks from Pink Houses where you visited. Being first generation immigrant, been an activist and mentor for over a decade. I’ve seen and experienced many different types of people, enclaves, cultures, countries, religions, etc. and for some reason this Alaska series is in my top 3 places you’ve traveled. I’ve always been intrigued by Alaska and the people but the variation in the way of lifestyle in Alaska is such a dream of mine to experience. What brought everyone there, the communal feeling Alaska has that many other states lack is all so enjoyable to watch and hopefully 1 day I’ll get to experience.

I was with them until I found out that they bail out and go to Turkey in the winter. They're just summer people, dabbling in the Alaska experience. I've lived in Maine year round for 35 years, and we have real winter here. Not as intense as parts of Alaska, but plenty tough. We call these people snowbirds. I have neighbors like them. San Francisco in the winter, Maine in the summer. Nice enough people, but city folk at heart. Until it drops to 20 below, and the wind howls, and the snow banks up against your cabin, and the power (if you are on the grid) goes out for days, and the car won't start, you do not know what winter is like. Alaska in the winter can be considerably harder than that. 40 or 50 below outside Fairbanks, but plenty of people do it. These are bright, interesting, intelligent people, but they have no idea what they are in for, if they intend to live year round in Alaska. It'll be an education.

Alaska is nice but to go live remotely like this is dangerous and you talk about hospital, he has no hospital nearby / It is pathetic and I hope this is the wife decision too . I ll never live anywhere remote. This is bs , you dont have be out late at night and can stay in a city such as Washington DC for example and simply go out during the day or move out to Europe even. Its just a an easy way out, he is willing to set up the electricity himself and learn how to hunt instead of learning French and moved into a village in france where he could have bought a house for 50k. Makes no sense if you really dig into his points.

I recommend a class action lawsuit against the City of Philadelphia for enabling the conditions in Kensington. The neighborhood is obviously a lawless funnel for the region's drug addicts. Forced secured rehab for anyone caught under the influence of narcotics is the obvious route to addressing this issue. Chances are that many of the local politicians, non profits and "clergy" are directly involved in the drug trade in Kensington.

I'm so grateful found you and your videos. Each one blows my mind up. You are great asking people and let them talk as they want. I'm so far from Alaska. Really in the other hemisphere. Thanks a lor for your brilliant and great job, Peter. Bravissimo! Pancho from Argentina.
