when you said that about hanging up a coat for the last time not knowing itll be the last time they ever do it made me shiver because i just recently had a massive heart attack, they call it the widow maker , and yes, i had things around the house that didnt realize it would have been my last time. im going to tell you a little story but you all have to keep it to yourselves because if hubby ever knew i said something he would be upset. when he took me to the hospital i had left my drink sat in the cup holder of my recliner and my slippers by my recliner as well. when i got home they were still sitting there and he had confessed to me that he didnt want to move it until i was back home safe and sound. he made me cry , silly fool, he just didnt want to disturb anything i had done until he knew i was ok . all this time i was thinking that we were growing apart because all we pretty much did was sit beside each other in our recliners , me on the laptop and him watching the television...lol .....just so you all know.... we spend a whole lot more time talking now 🥰

Please don't doubt yourself Matt, ALL of your videos are amazing! Each person will have their own favourite sort of explore but having all different types makes things interesting and varied. Whether its a huge mansion with everything inside, a church which is decaying fast, a hoarders paradise or a tiny little cottage it is YOU that makes them what they are. Even the short trips with Bear to a beach or forest or just walking around an old village with a bag of chips, it is your way of chatting, story telling or getting passionate about an old fireplace that make these videos great. Please don't stop!! 😊

Matt, recognizing fashion is history is not an indicator of anything more than the fact that you are observant. You are doing what historians - like me-- do for a living. You look at the world around you through a historical lens. You would have to be a dunderhead to not notice the history you find every place you explore. What you are drawn to is Material Culture....everyday items, how they were used, who used them, why and when. That's why I watch you. You excell at that. Never stop! 😊

They were preserving food for the winter months. The “potato ricer” is actually a strainer to make tomato sauce, for example. They needed the shells at the bottom of the pot so the jars weren’t in direct contact with the heat of the bottom and burst when processing. The clock in the kitchen was to time the food they were canning to be sure any botulism spores would be killed during processing. They grew their own food 100 years ago…there weren’t supermarkets. Lol The advertisement on top of the piano is an ad for a yogurt maker.

I am SO pleased that you feel the same about “the last time “ scenario. I honestly thought that I was the only person to think like that. I am having so much mental problems with this after my parents passed away- I found it worse with tins of food - they MY PARENTS ( in my mind screaming) bought this stuff to eat , absolutely NO intention of never op ening it up and eating it - SO SAD 😞 😢😢 I guess this feeling is because it makes us aware of our own vulnerability 😢

I really loved this place, so much old stuff.....there was 2 things in the kitchen you didn't know what they were used for, the first is a stone stove, where you have small grates over the 4/5 holes on top, and then you light it with firewood, (I still use my old wood stove here in Spain) it heats up the whole kitchen in winter. The second was the puree machine, which has probably been used for all the tomatoes in the house 😂 but can be used for most cooked vegetables and fruit...the piano is from around 1912 to 1920, Dumont Lelievré produced mostly church organs and harmonium..where u get u horses ready, we call it grooming stall ( hvev horses for 40 years, a lot of grooming) 😊

The black thing is a variable resistor, used to tune a radio. The wiper moves across the top and changes the resistance of due to the length of wire the current passes along. The pans around it, the brick for weighting and decorating the food, and the gravy boat...Brian says they used to have stoves like that in India. The brick would make sense to use on Lavash bread! The blood spatter around 46:35 kind of freaks me out as well, but I don't think it's human. The staining you see around the blood is caused by adipocere from the body's decomposition, but if it were a human you would be seeing that around the entire body and not just the fatal wounded part. To me, it looks like a cat or small mammal that didn't just die but was killed. The worrying part to me is that it's not there anymore....which makes me think of other nefarious things. Though, I guess it could be a decapitated head left there and then removed later.

No I understand you life is special and you see things and you put the clues together the family that were there the individuals and what they did each day? what work they did for a living, where did they walk their 🐕? what did they look like I understand being there is completely different but now I can imagine being there myself with you, just amazing

Ecole Primiaire Primary School and it's a school work book for homework. There was maths, grammar, dictation etc they never date their work in french schools, I found that freaky at first because we had to name and date every page we wrote in the UK Now they don't use lined paper they use squared paper. The Cahier d'ecriture was funny. They obviously had grumpy kids in those days. The lines were Soyez sage et studieux (be wise and study) and Maitrisez votre colere (control your anger) LOL 🤣 Even now when the kids are learning to write at age 4 or 5 they start with ink pens and learn cursive writing exactly like that.
