@@theshadowking9626lol cats were descended from African wild cats (they still exist and look like normal grey house cats). What you said was like saying instead of wolves, dogs came from coyotes. Put simply all true cats are in the same family but are not genetically alike which is why they are considered individual species within the family. Dogs are to wolves but not other Canids whereas cats are to (primarily) African wildcats but not other Felids

@@theshadowking9626 Nope. House cats are the same animal they’ve always been. That’s why science classifies them as “semi domesticated”. The only “domestic” cats are the few specialty breeds that we’ve created in the past 100 or so years.

They're the least dangerous big cats I think. Even were used as hunting partners back in the middle ages (in Asia and Africa to be precise. Dunno about other regions tho)

Cheetahs are actually quite easy to tame, especially if they are raised by humans from kitten hood. There are several wonderful groups out there that rescue cheetahs and they’re almost always friendly.

This is actually really impressive. Cheetah are typically very anxious animals and highly sensitive to having bigger animals approach them. Not sure if this one was born in captivity, but even so, it displays a magnificent amount of trust in the humans overseeing its care.

The cheetah rolling over like that might have been a show of trust, most cats (big and domestic ones) will roll on their backs as a way to say they feel safe around you, since their belly is where they're most vulnerable.

Yeah, if you think about it, they are a highly specialized species (in this case, for speed), which makes them particularly fragile compared to other felines. I don't know of any other feline that doesn't have retractable claws, only them.🤔

@@markmuller7962 I think the greatest evolutionary adaption they need FOR SURE is a larger head with longer teeth. Their heads are simply too small for taking down such large prey, it makes the whole situation so much more time inefficient and dangerous for the cheetah because their head is so small. It'd also compliment their speed well because if their heads were larger they'd also be longer meaning they'd be even more aerodynamic. This kinda seems like a no brainer to me evolutionarily speaking for sure.

That’s because a cheetah is the biggest small cat, the same group as house cats. The next largest is the smallest large cat, which roars instead of meowing.

@Cecil Rhodes I know and it's great. They're the biggest cat you could actually have as a pet, since "Big Cats" have the Pounce reflex that can override any learned behavior. Just ask Siegfried & Roy about that one.

Such a good boy Monte is. When you have respect for animals they recognize it. I worked with a tiger for 2 years and always had a respect and healthy fear of my boy Percy. As a result he let me in to his life and showed me parts of his life that were private and unknown to others.

Cheetahs have always been one of my favorite land animals since I was a child while whales, dolphins, and sharks for the oceans and owls are one of my favorite birds. He has a really neat job working with wildlife and if I could start over I would love to work with wildlife

For me I think the more iconic markings for cheetahs are the two black stripes along their nose. Lots of cats of spots. No other cat has that face. And it's universal, EVERY cheetah has that look.

Well they weight at an average of 54kg and lighter in build, the cheetah is the smallest of the big cats and technically it’s not considered a big cat anymore. Cheetahs and cougars were left off the list because they don't belong to the genus Panthera.

@Eugene_ JellyQueen They also have the structure in their throat that let's them purr, marking them as physically distinct from "Big Cats" that do not have that ability.

These big cats are starting to take one from the book of their smaller cousins “Humans give them good pets, and if you don’t kill them, they actually FEED you, and I’ve been sprinting around getting stunted on by those damn impalas”

IIRC Many cheetahs suffer from anxiety. Even to the point that they’re too anxious to mate or carry their litter full term. It’s common for zoos to give cheetahs service dogs to help with their anxiety. Seeing a cheetah this relaxed makes me want to cry. I loved cheetahs as a kid and CasualGeographic made me realize they’re basically my spirit animal 😭
