Damage to projectiles has always been a thing since rocket mechanics were added but it was so rare that it occurred people don't realise it, you can shoot and destroy rocket type projectiles including monster fireballs.

Listen! Runningback I’ve been trying to tell you it’s literally just a combat rifle! Yes a combat rifle on the picture on the wall in Christmas dinner map!!! The hilt of the the “sword” is the tip of the combat rifle and if you ok down you can see he is holding/hugging the gun! You are overthinking it too much! It’s just a simple combat rifle!

A Theory: The Battle Royale Island used to be inhabited but someone sent the airships to nuke the area, but the nukes backfired and killed the airships and poisoned the entire island, then winter came and froze the island. but after the frost melted, the nuclear radiation was exposed again. which then attracted the aliens who came here to harvest it, so when the aliens came they blew up the airship, thus explaining the new crash site.
