Fodniche Varan
Ingredients :
Turdal - 1 Cup
Water - 1½ Cup
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Oil - 3 to 4 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Chopped Garlic - 1 tbsp
Chopped Green Chilli - 1 tbsp
Tomato - ⅛ Cup
Salt - as per taste
Chopped Coriander - ⅛ Cup
Method :
Rinse 1 cup of Turdal thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.
In a pressure cooker, add the rinsed Turdal along with 1½ cups of water and 1 tsp of turmeric powder. Close the lid and cook for about 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft and cooked well.
Once the pressure releases naturally, open the cooker and mash the dal lightly with a spoon or a masher. Set it aside.
In a separate pan, heat 3-4 tsp of oil. Add 1 tsp of cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
Add 1 tbsp of chopped garlic and 1 tbsp of chopped green chili. Sauté until the garlic turns golden brown.
Add ⅛ cup of chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
Pour the cooked dal into the pan and mix well with the tempering.
Add salt to taste and let it simmer for a few minutes until the flavors blend together.
Finally, garnish with ⅛ cup of chopped coriander leaves.
Serve hot with rice or roti. Enjoy your Turdal!
