Hello Guys,
I have recently appeared in Interviews for Ph.D. admission for IISc, for the domain of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. I appeared in three departments there :
1. Computer Science and Automation (CSA)
2. Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE)
3. Electrical Engineering (EE)
In this video, I have shared my interview experiences so that it will be helpful for future aspirants. thanks for your information I was also appeared in IISC ECE phd interview (may 2021) for machine learning. they start with basics to complex and support us to solve the problems if we can't (in ece mostly asked for probability expectation, RV, plotting etc..

Just an off topic query, Sir. My son has got admission at iisc bangalore, m.tech A.I. this year. My question is : " is it compulsory to submit migration certificate of btech college at iisc for mtech ?

As far I remember, I didn't submit any migration certificate while I was admitted for my mtech at csa, IisC. But still, ask your son to go to administration office and ask them. They will help you and don't worry, even if you won't have it, they will give time to collect it and submit (if needed).

But suddenly my nephew who got admission at nit warangal mtech this year, told him about character certificate, college leaving certificate and migration certificate that's actually required in NIT Warangal. So, my son got a little confused. So, thanks again.

Sir, if I want to be Research Scientist at Google Research, Microsoft Research, IBM Research, etc is Ph.D. compulsory? Wouldn't MTech from IISc suffice the requirement? If no then should I directly apply for Ph.D. after BTech? Will direct Ph.D. become a problem later during the hiring process for research scientists positions in these companies? Thank You

1. Yes unfortunately, you need a Ph.D. to join Google, MSR as Research Scientist . In IRL(IBM Research Lab) you can join after M.Tech though but Ph.D. is always preferred. 2. yes, you can directly join for Ph.D. after your B.Tech. and it wont create any problem in your placement for Research Scientist as after Ph.D. your placement will be done based on your research work only. Whether you have done Mtech or not wouldn't be a factor.

1. Completing a Ph.D. in 5 years completely depends on your guide, but it's very much feasible provided your effort. 2. Yeah, ML/AI is very popular nowadays and there are low-hanging fruits in some directions. But please keep in mind there are a lot of researchers working in this domain nowadays and no one will leave those low-hanging ideas if someone finds them. So there is a lot of competition as well.

Untill unless you convert PhD during your Mtech, if you apply after completing Mtech, you have to appear in Interview.

Yes you can, for that u need certain cgpa cutoff and a guide who will be willing to take you as phd student. My PhD advisor was retiring and i didn't find anyone suitable to work in my research domain. That's why I didn't cinvert

How will we show proofs in online interview? Is it like that in online interview may be that they wont ask for proofs?

As far I remember last time, they didn't ask any documents during interviews. Only if you clear the interview they will ask for verification of documents before joining. So no need to worry about it.

Ohh sorry, i didn't get that. No there will br proofs (for almost all questions they will ask). They will ask you to do it on paper and show on camera of the laptop or mobile whatever you will be logged in. I suggest you to use markers to write the proofs, so that they are well visible.

Okay, you need to apply for the Ph.D program when the notification comes (mostly around March end or first week of April). While applying you have to give the details of your academic background (GPA) and Gate score. Based on that they will shortlist you for the interview or the written test. Cutoffs are different for different IITs.

Yes true, one of the panel members are supposed to call you. But for me ECE was first choice of preference, so I got call from there.

I have tried into top colleges in USA, but in Machine learning it's a bit tough as lots of competition is there. And in covid situation it's even more difficult. People has a misconception that after doing Mtech from IIsc they will get a smooth entry to usa top colleges. That's not true. There are many factors. I will make a video regarding this in future.

@@sanjotsagar1458 i would suggest to cover whole probability including the one your are thinking not to cover. They can ask you anything and proofs from there. So prepare well in all aspects.
