If you see the interview she gave on the same evening she's not "old lady-ish" at all. She has the manner of a young woman; friendly - also slightly flirtatious manner. I would assume that's thanks to a very long and successful marriage and a happy home life as well as her own personal achievements.
@csfwatson Жыл бұрын
@@sarrhodes8277 I think that is mostly because of Hollywood professional makeup techniques. She gave a talk at BGSU a few weeks later that I attended and she very much looked her age. She was an absolute delight, but she wasn't dressed for the Oscars, just a nice local panel at her alma mater.

It would have been sad if the movie about dress-making didn't win an Oscar for Best Costume Design.

Especially given how incredible the dress designs in the film are. In Los Angeles, they do an exhibit every year at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising showcasing the costumes of various prestige and event films and the last two years in a row, one of the most showcased outfits was Alma's Flemish lace dress.

I know what you're saying - she still looks great and recognisably the same woman; sadly, you can't say that about many older Hollywood stars who've succumbed to the surgeon's scalpel and look nothing like themselves. Eva Marie Saint indicates that in not having surgery you end up looking not only by yourself but possibly younger too. However, she is probably an exception. She also seems youthful in manner and movement - if you see the interview she gave the same evening.

It's so interesting to me, no more than a few weeks after Eva Marie's appearance here she came back to her alma mater at BGSU when I was still a student, and gave a talk going over her history and experiences, and I even got to ask her a question. And her entire demeanor was so different. At the Oscars, she was poised and direct. She looked like she was giving a performance when she was going over the nominees. At BGSU, she seemed a lot more relaxed. Very comfortable, and just happy to be there talking to a bunch of random college kids for a local panel. She talked to all the students almost like a grandmother whenever we asked her questions. I asked her a question about her experience with Lillian Gish (BGSU used to have a film theater dedicated to the Gish sisters before it got torn down by the university) and she was very happy talking about her experiences on the stage with Lillian. She just seemed so enjoyable to be around and she also gave off the energy she was so happy to be back at her alma mater.

Eva Marie Saint is nothing short of a saint. I love her so much. She looks younger than what her actual age is. It’s incredible how time has been so kind to her. She truly is one of the most incredible actresses and people! I feel angrily though at the telecast production team. They need to give legends like her, as much time as she needs to let her make sense to the audience. I know you have a show to run, but it was awkward trying to get her to rush through what she had to say and rush through her time on stage before announcing the nominees. So, at least plan it or script it a little better if you can. As for Mark Bridges & “Phantom Thread”, this was one of the most deserved awards of the evening, if not the most deserving award. He was so gracious and amazing! And “Phantom Thread” was just as so as a film! I thought it should have won more awards personally, and been nominated for more. Because everything about it was so beautiful, intelligent, and elegant! Just simply stunning. It has a better story than “The Big Sick”, which was not to say it wasn’t good, it was VERY good! But this had more memorable lines, and was a more memorable experience. At least to me. And I would have nominated it over that instead.

I met Eva Marie Saint backstage in October 1972 when my mother, who went to high school with her but hadn't seen her since, my sister, and I went to see her in a short run play, costarring Fred Gwynne, called The Lincoln Mask, at the Plymouth Theater in New York City. Because she played the part of Mary Todd, who was a shrew in the play, my mother wondered if her personality had changed because she was so sweet in high school. I said, "Mom, that's acting." We were in the second or third row of the theater, and my mother threw a folded piece of paper with a message onto the stage just after one of the acts, which was highly embarrassing, but no one saw it and it got swept off the stage when the furniture rolled off during the scene change. After the curtain call, my mother also called out Eva Maiie's high school nickname, and said she saw her do a stutter step when exiting the stage. I didn't see it, but when we met her backstage she said she did hear it called out, and she knew someone from way back was in the audience. When we met her backstage, in her dressing gown, after my mother gave her maiden name because Eva didn't know her married name, she took us to her dressing room and she was as nice as could be. I actually stayed a few minutes longer, separately, to talk to her, and she asked about my life, even though she didn't know me.
