I honestly think you did a fantastic job of explaining everything and it’s not hard to follow and appreciate you taking the time to make another video on this for those of us fed up with sub par dog food.

I mean, I’m glad there was a part 2 . A lot of people are not able to pay attention apparently. A visual representation would be great for those individuals. Here’s the issue though friends. Dogs are picky Some want ground beef , others want turkey , others want chicken. Your preparation will vary depending on those differences. I think you may have missed the part where you can use the prep in the video he reviewed and alter it based on his information to get what you need in the diet. What I did personally was order with a promo code from farmers dog the three main meals , turkey , beef, chicken. When you do this I would recommend 14 days of food. It will really give you an idea as to what your dog will really take to before you go off prepping something they won’t touch. I do mix it up from time to time so I can have different proteins in the food but the base my dog loves is always in there with less quantities. When you use a service like this it does get expensive after the promo code so some of you will end up making it on your own like I did. What is awesome about farmers dog though is they give you the recipe. There is ALOT involved with those recipes! The nutrients you need the most can be ordered from them in a powder to mix in the food which is a big help when meal prepping. Or you can selectively get the nutrients in bulk and add them yourself from your local store in most cases. When you start on their website all of your dogs info is entered and a specific amount of food is selected and your diet is based off of that. I know your hearing a lot of advocation from me about farmers dog but I recommend this method if your lost in the sauce out there like I was! At this point my dog is in much better shape and he is a 7 year old tri color American bully (not bulldog) as he gets older health problems typically show up for the breed in general. So far he runs, plays, walks, even talks back to me when I want. I know he feels good and loves his food and I don’t have to stress about the random kibble and whatever they just throw in it. I cook a months worth of food at a time and most of it is frozen in individually portioned ziplock bags. I take 2 bags out at night after his last meal of the day and put them in the fridge for the next day. Hope any of this info helps someone.

Thanks for the information on what was missing/wrong with the fresh dog food video. I have been on a real-food kick for my fur babies for more than 10 years now and good information and direction is very hard to come by. Unfortunately, where I live, the vets are less than helpful. When I told my vet what I wanted to do after my second dog developed cancer, he just looked at me like I was crazy and said “kibble is good”. But more than $10,000 into chemotherapy to treat my second dog, I decided kibble was definitely NOT good. And the money was worth it. She lived four more years after going through treatment for lymphatic cancer. Anyway, my current dog food recipe includes about 4-5 pounds of lean meat, beef or chicken, 1-2 pounds of liver and/or chicken hearts when I can get them (cheap protein), about a cup of green veggies (kale, spinach, zucchini and or broccoli) about a cup of chopped or shredded carrots, 5-7 scrambled eggs with a touch of milk, and rice is added in when I am preparing their breakfast or dinner. I also add pumpkin and beans of some sort (drained and rinsed if not salt free). The rice is cooked in an instant pot and refrigerated until needed. I also add turmeric powder but need to remember the black pepper and then there is the bone broth made from the chicken bones for moisture and ground toasted egg shells, flax seed, pumpkin seed, sunflower seed and chia seed all ground and added together to the tune of about a quarter cup per recipe. I think that’s all. For my two doggies, this is enough food for 7-9 days and what is not needed within a day or two is frozen. I also give them a doggy vitamin if I can remember. My chow mix is now 15.5 years old and my toy American Eskimo Dog is six. They spend almost no time at the vet!🤞🏼 Any suggestions/advice?

This is a great video. I started making home made food for my 6 year old Golden but I'm concerned about her getting enough nutrition. My recipe consists of, 6 cups of water, adding 1lb of ground turkey, 1 pinch of Rosemary, brown rice and mixed frozen vegetables. (Carrots, zucchini, Cauliflower and Broccoli). Could you please advise me on any nutrients with would be missing from this recipe to keep my Golden healthy ? Thanks so much!

From the video, you are missing liver and something like sardines ( omega 3) And in the other video he really praised Turmeric with a pinch a black pepper.

My vet recommended using a fish oil pill but after the third day of trying to get my dog to swallow it I noticed he had turned it into a game of me chasing him around the house with a pill, wrestling him to the ground, shoving it in his mouth several times, and finally accepting defeat, it was a 15 minute "fun time" and he was having a blast... I was irritated... so we swapped it out with sardines (in water) and everyone is happy... although I do think he misses the pre dinner activity.

I would like your opinion on my raw diet mix I use for my 8 year old Bearded collie with a hint of mastiff so he is 90 pounds instead of 60. He has been on this diet since 6 months old and now at 8 years of age he is as lively and bouncy and STRONG as 2 year old. I grind up 100 pounds of chicken thighs and legs in my LEM big bite grinder including bones of course. I add 3% raw beef liver and 3% raw beef kidney and roughly 3% mixed beef and chicken hearts and necks. I also include 5% of a mixture of raw ground up carrots and broccoli. I am trying to mimic what a wolf in the wild would be eating when he makes a kill. I also add one capsule of pharmaceutical grade Omega (lovaza) and one multivitamin (no iron) and one tablet of Glusocamine Chondroitin now that he is a senior. I give him 22 ounces of that mixed with 10 ounces of raw ground beef 80/20 every night. Does this sound good to you? I am a medical professional like you btw so you can talk shop with me LOL. I forgot to add that I crush an eggshell a few times a week and add that although the ground up chicken bones should suffice for calcium I think.

Ground beef, ground turkey (leanness of both depends on what’s on sale. If 80/20 ground beef is on sale, I’ll go with leaner ground turkey, cooked previously frozen pink salmon with skin on, egg, plain Greek yogurt, white rice, kale, blueberries, sweet potatoes and/or pumpkin. I try to keep the protein at least 75% and the rice and other stuff to 25%. I supplement with BalanceIt but am not entire of how much to add. I also give probiotic with pectin (German Shepherd poop) , vitamin b for dogs, tallow as supplements. I do add iodized salt, tumeric, ginger, and now a little black pepper. It sounds complicated but it’s really not. He’s a big dog so I have to use a lot of meat anyway. It doesn’t matter to me that it’s different sources . His bloodwork panel came back good, still awaiting Texas a/m GI results . I do add olive oil. I know I didn’t add the amounts of anything but can he eat salmon skin every day ? Anything glaringly wrong? He eats well now, loves his food of course, and has energy, good coat … thank you!! It’s hard not to second guess doing all of this. I believe kibble was making him sick and he knew it. He seems better on what I’m feeding now.

Thank this was much more helpful then the review! Would yogurt or cottage cheese also be a good way to incorporate calcium into a dogs diet? After doing more research on garlic I was shocked to find out your right. Both my vet and preliminary searches online said that even 1 clove would be highly toxic to my dog, after some more research I found out thats not true at all

What about quinoa rather than rice?
@rustyhowe3907
@rustyhowe3907 Ай бұрын
I use quinoa and it works fine, wholegrains work much better than rice but rice is used so much across the board simply because it's cheaper. Barley, millet, rye, oats (I use groats), whole wheat etc are perfectly fine and much better than rice, the only trouble with them is if your dog has an allergy/intolerance to them.

How did you discover cushings? My husband has said he suspects our new rescue may have this or at least his reading on it he attributed to our dog, except for being a little skinny I'm not sure there's anything wrong and don't want to do unnecessary tests just because he is worried about his weight, he was rescue so I suspect he just wasn't fed enough by his foster mother

A year ago we noticed our little girl was starting a belly. Took her to the Vet he really didn't comment. . Fast forward she started drinking more water, always hungry seemed tired. Back to the Vet he took a blood test and said thats what she has. He said we could do more test to confirm. I told him no. I'll do what I can to make our girl comfortable. About 2 weeks after the Vet visit her rear legs went out. She's ok now, but you could really see the difference in those little legs. She doesn't appear to be in pain. We now have her on a healthy diet. Time will tell? I hope this helps you with your fur baby. Best wishes.
