Pokemon cards with completely ridiculous names and knock offs that were ambitious enough to try and make their own game. Not well, but they did at least change it up. phelous.com / phelous #BootlegCards #Pokemon

Silly Phelous, when battling, it's always important to know whether your opponent is acidic, basic, or neutral!

Oh God, I just realised: The values these cards have are their *Base Stats* from the games: bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pok%C3%A9mon_by_base_stats_(Generation_VII-present) Guess the people who made these did some research after all.
@bailey63047 жыл бұрын
Man, of all those names, Sandshrew is the closest to what it actually is. A pangolin is a type of anteater, though unlike other species, they have scales, and look like armadillos. In fact, if you look up pangolin, you'll see it pretty much looks like a real life Sandshrew. The tail is a little longer, but other than that... yeah. Still, the names were awful.

This game seems a lot like the card game, Top Trumps. Though not explained in the instructions, you typically pick a card from your hand and place it FACE DOWN, say what Stat you are attacking with (one of your high stats obv), Then your opponent puts a card face down trying to counter it, you both flip and whoever has the bigger stat wins (though you could also bait out your opponents good cards by playing a bad card and bluffing a big stat). The winning card (highest stats) is discarded (I think?) And the "battles" winner claims the losers card and puts it into their hand. First person to lose all the cards in their hand loses the game. So would be like, highest height, heaviest weight, largest HP, biggest attack, fastest speed, highest... POW...? etc. (Seriously wtf are these haha). So... I'm guessing weakness doubles your stat against the opponent (so always win basically), and resistance makes your opponents skill -40 or -60 or stuff? (so again, always win basically). Fuck, the more I try and explain this, the worse it gets.
@BainesMkII6 жыл бұрын
Resistance was the negative of any card's HP total (so an HP 45 card would have -45 resistance.) But HP only matters if you pick HP as the battle stat. There was no mention in the two pages shown of resistance or weakness actually mattering (just as there was no use for skills), and several of the cards had the same element for both their resistance and weakness anyway. The rules even mention the ability to pick stars as the battle stat, which means you could win a fight because your card has the higher retreat cost. Otherwise, your Top Trumps description sounds close, except the rules here never say anything about picking the attack stat before cards are revealed. It just says everyone throws out a card, then you pick the combat stat, then the person with the highest value for that stat takes all the cards. And the winner of the game is the player with the most cards after the loser loses all of his cards... Maybe? Or is the winner the one with the most cards in their score pile when they run out of cards? The translation is an incoherent, and sometimes contradictory, mess...
@a.dennis48352 жыл бұрын
I think this what they were going for. However, this creates an issue: the attributes / elements. Presumably, it is supposed to work on an elemental rock paper scissor system. Except, what happens if you are comparing two attributes that no interaction such as Dragon and Ghost?

Just for the sake of giving a crumb of credit to the translators, "Drupe" is a word. It's the name for stone fruits like cherries, plums, peaches, apricots and such. They probably wanted a plant name and could easily have used carp for extra confusion (as in the endocarp, mesocarp and pericarp of pomacious fruits like apples.)
@pokemario64567 жыл бұрын
The gameplay of this bootleg is actually similar to Top Trumps, a card game where you compare stats and whoever has the highest stat takes both cards; whoever takes all the cards wins

Huh.... That's actually kind of interesting. The Bootleggers didn't just grab those stats out of nowhere. Those are the base stats from the games. Like, look at Blaziken's card, and look at these stats. HP: 80 Attack: 120 Defense: 70 Sp. Atk: 110 Sp. Def: 70 Speed: 80 Those are the EXACT stats on the card. So... kudos to the bootleggers for at least researching what they were ripping off to at least SOME degree. Though that obviously doesn't excuse the lack of research on the type chart....

It seems the pattern with Jigglypuff is that it's name is translated to Fat in Chinese. I know in the Mandarin version it's name translates to 'Fat Puff' and Wigglytuff is 'Fat Pudding'. I think in Cantonese it is translated (for Jiggly) as 'Fat Ball' so in whatever Chinese version you have, Jiggly and Wiggly will always be 'FAT'.

I think the skills were all moves taken from the pokemon's actual move list at random then google translated from another language into english. "Ray of broken plates" is probably Hyper Beam. Most fully evolved pokemon can learn it, so that's why it keeps showing up.

It looks like this is how you play the game: You attack with the base PH and one of the other stats added together. The opponent counters with their card. The attacker subtracts the defending cards PH from it's PH and that's the attack number. The POW is reduced by that attack amount. When the card's POW reached zero, then it is removed from the game. Because the defending card isn't revealed until after the attack is added up, you don't know which attack is best. My guess is that there was supposed to be a way to make certain attacks nullified or reduced. And I'm guessing this borrows a lot from Yugioh.
@Cactino7 жыл бұрын
I guess the way this card game is supposed to be played is that you have to chose which stat you want to attack with without knowing which card your opponent is going to use. So I think it may be sort of based on that Top Trumps style of gameplay...?
