recorded off a pre-recorded VHS tape and cleaned up with some slight color corrections and adjusted frame rate corrections best I could
Original WOR Broadcast with Ralph Kiner, Tim McCarver and Steve Zabriski from Shea Stadium as the Mets finally get to Reds starter Mario Soto who has a 7-0 career record against the Mets helped by HRs from Mookie Wilson and Darryl Strawberry (each with 4 RBIs) as Dwight Gooden and the Mets get their first win against the hard throwing right hander since he came in.
Dwight Goode's breaking ball is insane dropping off the table in this game easy win for New York

I love the Mets. I was 7 when they last won the World Series. I will bawl like a baby if I live long enough to see them win again.

I was at this game with my father back in ‘84! A rare Saturday night game for the Mets back then. It was mega humid night after a deluge of rain all day. Mets really poured it on offensively that night. I remember Keith Hernandez’ double that he smoked into the left field corner. From our seats we could see the ball arcing and curving as it was lined like a rope. Great memories from a great night.

Holy cow!!! I can't believe this game is posted! I was at this game, along with my cousin's husband, their two sons and their friend. Mario Soto was 8-0 lifetime, I believe, against the Mets prior to this game- the Mets shellacked him, and he never beat the Mets again. Wilson, Strawberry homered for the Mets, and Parker clouted for Cincinnati in the ninth. My first game at Shea in nine years (Randy Tate pitched a complete game against the Phillies in a 1975 game), and the fans did "the wave," which became a popular fan activity. We sat in the field level seats between first base and the right field foul pole (pretty much in the vicinity where my family and I sat in 1975), and Wilson's homer flew over our heads and hit the foul pole mesh screen. I was a year and a half out of the Army, the Reds getting shellacked, 14-4, Soto losing to the Mets for the first time, the fans doing "the wave"- quite a festive treat!!!

I probably watched at least part of this game even though this was a Saturday night and me and my friends were smoking a lot of pot at that time(I was 16)but this was also when the Mets actually were in contention for the first time in about 10 years with them ending up in 2nd place behind the Cubs-so I always had an ear on the game, including the radio broadcast with Bob Murphy. I appreciate the upload

1984 was totally dominated by the Tigers. One of the most dominant teams ever

I'm hoping we get those back to back 16 strikeout games late in the season.

Mookie was no slugger but when he homers you didn't expect it that would happen.

What do you all think of Ralph Kiner as an announcer? I heard he won an award.
@eddiecollison

I loved him, not a great announcer technically speaking, but brought a lot of first hand baseball knowledge from his Hall of Fame playing career with the Pirates. And of course he was well known for his many malaprops, calling Gary Carter 'Gary Cooper', .."and now a word from Manufacturers Hangover" lol.
