Yep, this was the first game in the classic blue top road uniform that they wore through 1989 in the playoffs that year. Blue pants and white pants were worn exclusively. Cubs would reboot this uniform two different times in the 90s, the first time in 1994 when the Cubs wordmark was presented across the chest and then the current road alternate uniform that they won the 2016 World Series in as that was launched in 1998. Cubs have not rebranded their uniforms since that season.

I’m not sure if they announced spring training games back then. But this was opening day of his first season for the Cubs, so I’m pretty sure that it was!

@@nemesisgenius I agree, I'd love to see them bring this jersey back as an alternate. It'll be interesting to see the buttown-down version of it. The white pants were so clean with it, so I'd like to see it be worn for home games as well. I agree with you on the road gray jerseys as well as they need some red outline triming. I got an idea though since the league installed a new 4-jersey rule this season where teams aren't allowed to have more than 4 jerseys in a season anymore, not including city connects or throwbacks. The Cubs currently use only 3 jerseys the home pinstripe whites, road grays, and blue alternates for the road. They still have the Wrigleyville city connects as well. I was thinking they bring back these blue alternates from the 80s and modernize them like we were saying without the cuff trimming. These can fit into the rotation very easily. I would either make these the new city connects or just add them in as the 4th jersey. They can be worn at home and on the road. I like the home whites, but they need to switch it up sometimes.
