As far as a legacy goes seeing Pantera live is one of my greatest memories and that era being some of the best times of my younger life. There was so many great bands at that time , Tool, Metallica, Danzig Soundgarden,NIN, Alice in chains etc etc . Pantera was at the peak. That's a legacy.

I've been a Pantera fan for a long time. When I was a teenager, the reason I followed Phil was because of his invulnerable personality. The reason I follow him know is because he has achieved wisdom, he knows his own story, has reflected on his inner trauma, and has a story for us how he conquered it. This is a grown up, wise man. I respect him more now than I ever did. Rock on! 🤘

I've been a fan of Pantera for a very long time. I have had chronic neck and shoulder pain for the last 6 years. When Phil talks about his experience with pain, how it can't be fixed, how it's a shit existence.. It makes me feel so much better. Feels like I'm not alone. It's easy to feel alienated and bitter, so commiseration is helpful, ESPECIALLY when it comes from someone as awesome as Phil Anselmo

Yeah man, I have pretty much the same issues that Phil has from performing on stage. Too much headbanging and I trashed my lower back as well. I have had neck surgery because my hands stopped working and I couldn't play guitar anymore, I have been pushing off fusing my lower back since 2015. Nobody really understands how bad chronic pain can be. I did pain management until they got me hooked on opioids, then I took myself off them. Phil describes the reality of living on narcotics freaking perfectly! Often times my friends and family tell me they are so happy I am not in pain anymore, which is a perfect example of how hard it is for someone that doesn't deal with this to understand. I have pain all day / every day, I just learned how to live with it. I went from being the literal strongest person in almost any room I walked in to, to not being able to pick up my 3 year old daughter. The alienation and isolation you feel is so powerful and Phil describes it perfectly!

I don't know if I'd swing with greatest metal singer...he's up there in the conversation but I don't know if I'd ever center in on him for that. But, for sure, I feel there's a DEFINITE argument for him being the greatest front man. He's like metal's Robert Plant to me - knew how to COMMAND the stage, *front* the band, and just be the leader in attitude, energy, and spirit, even down to having amazing early vocal abilities and kind of losing his range a bit but still making the absolute best of it on later records.

Phil, you probably don't read these comments. Regardless, it makes me very happy to see that you've seemingly managed to defeat one of the most difficult addictions of all. Also, I've watched most of your interviews over the last 20 something years ,and it's clear that you've regained your mental sharpness; your interviews sound much more like they did in the early 90s. Anyway, you're my favorite musician of all time; Pantera along with your other projects have played a central role in motivating me to accomplish many difficult goals. Metal often gets a bad reputation for only inspiring substance abuse, degeneracy, and self-destructive behavior. This is not true. Thank you for your continuing to inspiration, and please never give into these woke assholes or cancel culture. A lot of what Vinnie and dime were doing and saying when things were going bad aren't discussed or mentioned when reasons for that rift come up, so it was a two way street of blame for the Pantera breakup. The record company had a lot to do with Phils attitude and Vinnie and dime were not really sympathetic to that situation. The label made some promises they never entertained and it was the crux and catalyst to a rift that widedned over time. Not only did they resent his addictions, as they had some of there own, they really resented his side projects. It seems Phil is copping out to those things as being wrong of him now but back then it seemed they could have been more supportive based on Phils character at the time. I believe things would've went better if that support and understanding would have come. Pantera was a money maker yes,I think it would've still been even if those side projects were promoted, maybe even moreso. Idk, Phil shouldn't bear the brundt.

Nice a new Phil interview. Never seen this one. I don't think I've ever heard him go into this much detail about his addiction issues and the breakup of Pantera. I love this dude cause I grew up with Pantera, I'm 38 and was also on heroin before and methadone after and I just relate to him a lot and love his music. This is probably one of the best interviews I've ever seen with him and I've seen them all pretty much. Good job man.

@@justinhayes2194 start dropping dosage now and don’t let them get you on too much. Went from avg of 4grams of fent a day to 50 mgs of methadone and i wouldn’t let them keep me there so I was down to 40 within the first week. Stayed with that a few months just to adjust and yeah it sucked but not as bad as cold turkey and then after a few months started dropping a MG a week.

Phil is doing so much better now, he has become so much more articulate in the way he speaks & is describing things in both a motivational and inspiring way. The whole community should be dead proud of the way he’s turning his life around. Wishing you upmost health and happiness! Pantera for life ✌️

If I ever meet this man I'm going to introduce myself as Phil Anselmo, I know that sounds like a jackass statement but in the early 90s I loved thrash and Pantera were one of the only bands who were actually getting heavier when everything was going to Grunge...All the stories and hard times, addictions, death and finally now, where he's back healthy. No,my name is not Phil but I can definitely relate, and a big part of who am is because of Pantera and his story is inspiring of how you can come back from anything!

God I just love Phil. I quit drinking 3 years ago after over 20 years of the bullshit and I absolutely, wholeheartedly understand why he gets so passionate when he talks about the dangers of drugs. He mentioned he was going off the point, but I dunno...I would just let him talk. He's passionate as hell about it and he will help so many other people by just listening to him. He is so spot on and encouraging others to get completely clean is one of the greatest, most noble acts one can do in this life because you are honestly helping a person to grab the gift of living. I also like how he used 'Recovered' drug addict rather than 'Recovering.' He's spot on although I respect others will disagree. It really is all about taking control back whilst falling in love with your new found freedom. You look back over your should 12 months later and you despise the sick routine you had. There is nothing appealing about it at all. Amazing fella is Phil. I have an abundance of respect for the man.

Phil is completely honest about back pain and painkillers. No one understands the utter non stop ice pick in the back, unless they've been there. I had issues with my L4 and L5 (Lumbar) for years. Eventually, I was to the point of buying Vicodin 10mg "off the street", from just a few people I knew. I got to the point of taking 40-50 a day, along with a cornucopia of others pills and drugs. This lasted for at the very minimum of 10 years of my life. I truly believe that it's a miracle that I am still here and a healthy 52 year old man. I never was a big drinker and I never drank the whole time I was eating Vicodin like Pac Man, had I been a drinker, I don't think I would be here right now. I am also a former Marine. This shit can seduce just about anyone.

I wonder how many people Phil has turned on to darker more extreme forms of metal. I was a thrash kid and already into what would be called death metal by the time CFH came out, but my love of black metal and all things Nola came from me checking out the bands he talked about in interviews back in the day. Eyehategod and Crowbar will both tell you that the shirts he wore in the video for "I'm Broken" gave them a serious bump that they never dreamed possible. Never mind the hype about the things he said or didn't say. I'm talking about his love for music and his love of turning people on to lesser know bands. To see him trying to take care of himself so he can stick around and continue to be the "champion of the underdogs" is inspiring as hell. He may be a lot of things but a quitter ain't one of them. Thanks for 30 some odd years inspiration Phil, and here's to the next 30.
