Man, that drum fill *never* gets old. Sounds as incredible now as it did when it was released in 1981. And its use in the first episode of Miami Vice singlehandedly changed the course of TV. The song is epic.

I adore that these younger people are getting to see what we got enjoy at very important times in our young lives (well young, back then anyway). Plus I just discovered on another thread what this songs means ... ghost Lee Phil Collins used to be the drummer for the group Genesis When he went solo this was his 1st single as a solo artist in 1981. People have speculated the meaning of the song.but he cleared it up on the Jimmy Fallon show. He said it's about going thru a divorce. AND at the same time keeps the memory of all the great ones alive. Actually, that is the most important aspect of reaction videos like yours, Jayvee, keeping the memory alive, and perhaps even getting others from the younger generation interested in the old school masters as well. So keep it up. For us older generation people who grew up with Phil, MJ, and the likes, it is a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Thank you for your videos. 💚🙏😊

The version you picked is not just a "song", its a performance and a piece of art! I´ve heard it first in my early 20s and the drum solo blew me away! A few weeks later I´ve seen it on TV in the "Miami Vice"tv series and the implementation of a song into a scene of a tv series was the best I´ve ever seen because it really seemed to "fit" and both-the song and scene seemed to enhance each other. It somehow seemed as if the song was especially written for that scene and the scene was especially choreographed for that song.

When asked in an interview if he considered himself a singer or a drummer, he said a drummer. His base player talked on a video about working on an artists song with Phil and he talked about how happy Phil was just playing the drums as it was what he loved to do

There are SO many songs Collins has done, including work for Disney's Tarzan. Probably my favorite and most thought provoking is Land of Confusion (Genesis). For a lot of fun - Sussudeo (Collins solo). I suggest Peter Gabriel (former front man to Genesis before Collins took over) and Salsbury Hill. Then I suggest from his So album Big Time and Sledge Hammer. Oh and did we mention Collins was and remained the principal drummer of Genesis for many years. A multi talented musician.

I saw Genesis and Phil solo (2 concerts) back in the mid ‘80’s in Australia. I love all their music to this day. Including Peter Gabriel. AWESOME choice, JV. You’ll love it. This was made after his back gave out. Otherwise he would have been drumming the whole time. Bless.

I love watching people discover this great artist! This one of the most epic songs ever! Class of 1988 here. When we walked off the graduation stage, we played this song. Whenever it plays on the radio, anyone that knows this song has to play air drums when he hits those drums! Glad you found this amazing artist!

@6:40 - CLASSIC!!!! That drum roll is EVERYTHING!! From the time my middle daughter was three years old (she’s 23 now), every time that song came on the radio in my “soccer mom minivan“, I would say to her: “Abigail, get your drumsticks ready!“.. and without missing a beat, she hit that drum roll every time! I love it! Thank you so much for posting this 😬👍❤️❤️❤️🎉
