I'm 67 years old and even though I love all types of music from all eras, the music of the 70s and 80s is the music that entwines my heart and soul. The best years of my life. Most of the family and friends from those years have passed, whether from illness or age, but when I hear the songs, I'm back with them; healthy and laughing and loving life. I enjoy seeing you and others of your generation - and those even younger - experiencing and appreciating the talent that came before you. Thank you for your videos.

January 1981 Phil wrote, produced and performed this single in a very subdued UK environment with 'some' attention but not at the the level it's risen to today. The concert we're watching here was at the Palais Omnisports Paris Bercy, in June 2004. At the beginning he recalls a meeting with someone for whom he obviously has no respect (Well if you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand. I've seen your face before, my friend, but I don't know if you know who I am. I was there and I saw what you did...saw it with my own two eyes (In his mirror). So you can wipe off that grin...I know where you been. It's all been a pack of lies.) He's referring, of course, to himself and not to some imaginary other. His lowest point in life (drowning) through his answered prayers for success (I can feel it comin' in the air tonight, oh Lord) to his eventual stardom (I've been waiting for this moment all my life) brought him here to share with you and me the one thing that we're all afraid of...failure vs success. The melody is haunting, the atmosphere follows suit, the lyrics touch all of our hearts and the climax is...well, you tell me!

Notice how these artists knew how to build the crowds up and how they use lights , and music and how they come on stage and how the enteract with the crowd. Notice his expressions and way he sung playing to the crowd. The artists in the 70s and 80s knew how play the crowd and be part of them and make them feel part of the show and Collins was a pro at it

During the "Dance Into the Light" tour in 97, that almost happened. His drum tech is a friend of mine and told me that, at one show, the hydraulic lift for his "In the Air Tonight" kit didn't work...he had to literally jump DOWN to where his kit was in order to make his entrance on the fill...because of all of the drum and cymbal stands (as well as his stool and the pedals), this could've easily ended with an injury...but he stuck the landing, played, and sold the t-shirt ;) Legend.

Phil did this song about a year or so ago on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Quest Love played the drums and was scared to DEATH that he would screw it up in front of Phil. Of course he did a great job with it, but you could see the anxiety building in him as the song progressed. Phil also explains why he wrote the song and what it was about. It was really cool to watch the guitar player as he strategically placed all of the special sound effects. I recommend watching that one!

Listening to you describe why "I've been waiting for this moment..." is a feeling that I am sure we all have felt. While not as celebrated as this Iconic song, you should really listen to his "I Don't Care Anymore" song, especially live; I think you would feel the line, "I remember all the times I tried so hard, and you laughed at my face 'cause you held all the cards!" In my opinion, Phil Collins is one of the best live musicians, ever...definitely not a studio only singer....along the lines of Goo Goo Dolls, U2, Eagles, Coldplay and my personal favorite all time, live performer....George Michael...never got to see MJ

I remember when this came out. I am 1/2 Native American. My mama, family & friends all talked about the drums in the song and how at the beginning how much they sound like ur are at a Pow Wow. I participated in a native game where you have dance to the drums while someone drops a dollar bill on the ground. You have to make ur way in dance to the dollar & pick it up without using ur hands at all. The drumming was so similar to the beginning of this song. NEVER EVER let anyone tell you what you can do. Sometimes you will amaze yourself. ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!!!!

Duuuuuuude, that's what I'm SAYING. What the song was built from is important, but what makes it so significant is what it means to each person, because at the root of it is a sense of empowerment... the strength that we each have within ourselves to know what is RIGHT, and to follow it no matter how other people do wrong or try to tear us down. Like you KNOW you have your own worth, and the actions of others, at the end of the day, will see a reckoning one way or another, and it's so satisfying and rare to embody that in a song. What a stellar performer. Seriously.

I can feel your pain listening to this song. It was very important to my life when getting divorced. When Phil sits down to play the drums, it's an explosion.

I'm so glad you that you BELIEVED in YOURSELF and that you didn't stop BELIEVING in your DREAM . That's what happens to alot of young people, Their DREAMS DIE Because of people that don't BELIEVE or Encourage them. BUT GOD ALWAYS BELIEVED IN YOU, BECAUSE HE GAVE YOU THE DREAM . SO DREAM ON TO ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE , AND LET KNOW ONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT .
