Phil Collins is an amazing entertainer; the hype, blue lights, music, he's got the crowd under control, however their extreme extreme excitement give us a heads up; when he starts walking up the stairs, his voice changes, when he gets on the drums,it's as if he's lifting anything from his mind

When this song came out, my mama always used to say that the drumming reminded her of the drums at Pow Wow’s in the Lumbee nation where I am from. As I grew up, I see now what she meant. The drums that leads up to where he gets on the drums most definitely makes me think of the drums they play that I have danced to many times. I saw an interview on KZfaq from a few years back. The interviewer mentions that he is one of three artists that has sold over 300 million albums as a solo artist and as part of a band. Phil Collins was surprised to hear that fact. He even more surprised when he found out who the 2 artists he shared that accomplishment with: Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson. He was like wow. No way. I love all his music.

He ran around stage without seeming to get tired at all...and actually SANG (not synced like many current stars) and he sounds exactly like his albums in person....this is a legend for sure :) *if you aren't doing the drums/singing with him by the end, there's something wrong with you hahaha

This song is an exercise in building tension and anticipation. That's what makes that fill so iconic. On its own, it would be rather unremarkable. Sussudio is a fun tune! But Against All Odds (Take A Look at Me Now) is my all-time favorite Phil Collins song.

He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums). It was performed in front of 20,000 + people at the "Palais Omnisport de Paris" and truly was, if not the greatest, close to the greatest live performance ever. It was from his "Finally... The First Farewell" Tour and this particular concert in Bercy started with an amazing "Drums, Drums & More Drums" track performed by Phil and his other drummer, the previously mentioned Mr. Thompson. Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is in his 70's now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).

Idk why, but it's strange to me JUST how many people KNOW that drum fil, or even the entire song, AND NEVER knew Phil was behind that drum set?!? BUT, I DO love their REACTION when they think he's just walking around singin'...til he sits down n blows their minds!!! And I've literally seen n heard ppl saying crap like "don't do THAT, You're gonna pull something!", or like "don't hurt yourself!"😵😤😡 And I'm like, seriously!? He's been playing the drums since he was 5yrs old!!!❤ PLUS, he's been at this longer than MOST of them have been a sperm!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 Phil may be Gettin up there, BUT, he's probably healthier than most of us TOO!! N STILL to this day, sounds JUST like he did back when this song came out!!😂🙏👍✌🔥💖💕💗💋🌹🌹🌹🌻🌻🌺🌺🌸🌸🌷🌷💐 Happy Valentine's Day hun!!✌ Ty for NOT being one of those "sheeple"!!! Lmao.....loved IT!! That was his last tour. You need to go down the rabbit hole of Phil. The first time I saw him on T.V.it was this song and yes he played the drums. I found out he can't read music which made me wanting more. He was in the band Genesis he was great they had a lot of hits. He then went solo good move. This song he wrote while going through a divorce. They have used his songs for a lot of movies. I wish I could have seen him in concert. PLEASE READ!

This song is a dramatic step up from the studio version and adds so much character to the song. However, if you REALLY want to see a step up video from the studio version, check out his live version of "Sussudio". It's like night and day and kicks up the song to legendary levels. It's the song he "ends" his concert with because the energy levels are so off the charts. The best version I've seen is from the Serious Hits Live tour in Berlin or the Dance Into the Light tour.

If you're into fusion jazz Phil says his work with Brand X is some of his best. No singing, just drums. Really, really good. Think Mahavishnu Orchestra meets Weather Report. If you are not into the pop era, check out Genesis with Phil and Peter Gabriel....and later with just Phil until Duke (1980), when his solo career took off. It is almost jazzy rock (not fusion). Experimental. Brain Candy. Check out 'Fly on the Windshield' from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The album rocks.
