Phil's co writer of this song was Lamont Dozier. Lamont was part of Motown's writing trio H-D-H which is credited for numerous number 1 hits with the Supremes, Four Tops, Isley Brothers, and many more. They definitely recaptured that Motown sound with this song. Another interesting thing is Lamont and Phil have similar sounding voices, I didn't know that until I started collecting Lamont's solo work.
